Lately, Chime for Change, the campaign launched by Gucci to raise funds and awareness for girls’ and women’s empowerment announced The Sound of Change Live, a globally televised concert taking place on June 1, 2013 at London’s Twickenham Stadium.

The event will be led by Artistic Director Beyonce Knowles-Carter, who will perform alongside a host of musical artists and presenters including Ellie Goulding, Florence + the Machine, HAIM, Iggy Azalea, John Legend, Laura Pausini, Rita Ora and Timbaland amongst others. Moreover, the concert will also serve as a platform to broadcast inspirational and provocative short films and stories spotlighting the plight of women.

As founder of the campaign Gucci will underwrite the concert event so that all ticket sales will support projects pursuing change for girls and women, specifically in the areas of education, health and justice.

About the concert Beyonce says, “Our goal is to call for change for girls and women in the loudest voice possible. I am excited for us to come together on June 1st to bring the issues of education, health and justice for girls and women to the world stage.”

With all buzz revolving around Grand finale and the showstopper three young and innovative designers showed their mettle at Talent Box at the last day of Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2013.

The lineup including Siyaahi by Poonam & Rohit, Garo by Priyangsu & Sweta and Ritika brought to the fore some scintillating designs offering a well garnished visual feast. Designer duo Poonam & Rohit of Siyaahi presented an elegant collection inspired by the wondrous, mysterious and enchanting land of Egypt. The eclectic Indo-Western collection of dresses, gowns and saris was crafted using fabrics like chiffon, georgette and silk in earthy tones of fresh cream, copper, mud and bronze. Adding the glamour were techniques like aari, marori, pitta, trims, tassels, zardozi, beading, weaves and sequins.

The next in the row was a Boho-chic-meets-cyber cool collection by Priyangsu & Sweta of label Garo based on the essence and tradition within North Africa and its tribes. Rich in culture, the line merged Indian techniques with African concepts, which translated onto unique asymmetrical silhouettes to create blazers, tunics, trousers, shorts, shirts, skirts and saris.  The fabrics used were chiffon, linen, cotton, malkha, khadi and Assamese weaves and the color palette included pink, beige, powder blue, red, brown and black.

Designer Ritika Bharwani presented a range titled ‘Seascapes’ inspired by the beauty of coral reefs and their magnificent vision from under the sea. Delicate yet structured the silhouettes consisted of gowns and dresses in fabrics such as georgette, jersey, lace and net. The use of glistening beads, gold stones, tubes, as well as neon accents and sequins rendered a sassy feel to the collection in vibrant hues like flamingo pink, rust kissed red, red hot orange and softer tones of beige.

Henceforth, celebrated shoe designer Christian Louboutin will have another glittering feather in his plumage as the designer has recently been appointed as the President of the prestigious Paris College of Art of the Class of 2013.

To kick-off this collaboration the designer met with the students in the final year and gave them a theme to inspire them in the creation of new work. In his introduction to the project Louboutin encouraged the students to not censor themselves when creating, to give their ideas room to grow, and to not be limited by technical issues.

The designer also happened to describe his own approach to design: like an artist, he does not concern himself with trends and what the client wants; he is only concerned with his own vision. Meanwhile, on the occasion, when the designer was asked to give advice to young people who want to get into this industry, he replied, “Be true to yourself.”

Lately, the British Fashion Council announced the ten Rock Vault designers who will showcase their Autumn Winter 2013 collections at the Exhibition during forthcoming London Fashion Week, scheduled from 15th – 19th February 2013.

The designer brands selected to take part in this unique showcase are Alice Cicolini, Fernando Jorge, Hannah Martin, Husam El Odeh, Imogen Belfield, Jo Hayes Ward, Melanie Georgacopoulos, Sophie Bille Brahe, Tomasz Donocik and Yunus & Eliza.

Rock Vault, in its third season, is a unique showcasing initiative developed to nurture the creative, fine jewellery talent based in London and to give designers the opportunity to further develop their businesses and increase their exposure globally.

As part of this new collaboration the jewelers have been invited to design a pair of red carpet earrings created in palladium. The one of a kind earring will celebrate the metal’s key attributes of lightness and strength and will be showcased within the dedicated Rock Vault area in the Exhibition at Somerset House during LFW.

The storied American high-street brand Tommy Hilfiger unveiled its Spring Summer 2013 campaign “le voyage seafar-ius” – the personification of the preppy heritage and irreverent spirit of the brand.

Featuring The Hilfigers – the beloved all-American family at the heart of the brand’s marketing strategy – the new campaign takes the notorious group of eclectic characters onto the high seas. For Spring 2013, the Tommy Hilfiger advertising campaign includes a digital webisode set to British singer Estelle’s “Do My Thing” track, a highly acclaimed collaboration featuring Janelle Monáe.

Capturing The Hilfigers’ lively spirit, playful attitude, and quirky take on iconic American tradition, Spring Summer 2013 webisode marks a move towards a significant boost in digital marketing for the brand, with investments in the digital space more than doubling since Fall Winter 2012.

About the campaign, Tommy Hilfiger said, “Classic nautical influences were some of the earliest inspirations I incorporated into my designs, so this campaign is very exciting for me.”

“I love the boating life, and this season The Hilfigers are setting sail like only they know how, with all the adventurous spirit and youthful irreverence we’ve come to love and expect.  There’s no better setting to highlight the nautical inspirations, red, white and blue color palette, and heritage prep details of the Spring Summer 2013 Runway Collections,” he concluded.
