Artiste Sharmistha Ray flaunts her exclusive range of abstract paintings with an exhibition at the Galerie Mirchandani & Steinrucke located at Colaba, Mumbai. Her paintings themed as Hidden Geographies, explores the spiritual and metaphysical conditions mused on the land of Mumbai. She walks around the city for her paintings as a site for poetical excavation. Ray has presented her creations for an exposition, solely for the first time.
The dexterous artist mines those ubiquitous symbols and signifiers that have been distilled through her experience. Her visual language combines an unconventional color palette and expressive gestural style with built-up layers of paint that is direct, emotive and visceral. Color stands as pure emotion for the lady displaying exclusive art of work while again the painterly gesture signifies the relevance of these colors on the canvas as per the understanding of Ray. The resulting meta-landscapes of Hidden Geographies are suspended in time between mythos and reality, between abstraction and it’s opposite, exposing an intimate and charged topography of the subconscious mind.
A palette displaying vivacious and pulsating colors was showcased by Sharmistha Ray’s paintings. Similarly like her paintings an effervescent list of guests was found appreciating Ray for her work. Mostly members from the art community which included Atul & Anju Dodiya, Shireen Gandhy, Farah Siddiqui,Girish Shahane, Priyasri Patodia, Shilpa Gupta, Rajiv Saini, Brinda Miller, Kahini Arte Merchant. Also present were Cecilia Morelli with husband Rohan Parikh, Ashiesh Shah, Alex Kuruvilla, Bakul Patel, Pheroza Godrej, Krsna Mehta came as her spectators.
