Varuna D Jani unveils a revolutionary design concept patented by the jewellery expert and designer herself, with an interactive fashion show VOW at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.

Varuna D Jani believes that invention is innovation. She understands the need for personalized jewellery, giving consumers the opportunity to “build up” a bangle themselves – to their Very Own Wish VOW. Each VOW bangle comes with a base and multiple enhancers. Each multifunctional enhancer brings out a new facet of today’s woman; varying combinations construct a new piece and add that perfect touch of glamour to every outfit. One can choose from a series of element which fit perfectly together and can be combined to create the desired piece of jewellery.

Sharing her thoughts on this innovative concept Varuna says, “Becoming a woman means to evolve, transform, and change. Understanding the female soul and its continuous need to evolve, we have launched the VOW Bangles. Like any female soul which is true and mysterious the Vow bangles epitomise the same.”

VOW collection of modular bangles has been launched keeping in mind the dynamic nature of the jewellery industry and increasing customer expectations. This collection will be made available to all consumers through various retailers. Inspired by the global woman, these bangles are contemporary in style yet can be kept for posterity.

Dipped in the palette of festive colours, the outfits are elegant in their own sartorial sense, with elaborate Pakistani embroidery making them ideal for weddings and cocktail parties.

When Lakme Fashion Week 2011 is merely a week away, Designer Debarun Mukherjee shares a peep into his Winter Festive 2011 collection with fashionfad.

Inspired of a strange yet ancient companionship between the eye and its common adornment, ‘Kohl’ the collection mainly plays with the duo-chromatic background of black and white. Grand, simple and straight silhouettes portray simplicity of Indian fusion wear with elements of drama and fluidity. The collection is interspersed with elements of colour as it denotes the colours of life, the third hidden player in the companionship. The colours manifest itself through the show stopper, accessories and shoes.

Saree’s, layered lehanga’s, flowing dresses, one piece gown inspired occasional wear and long suits are a few of the silhouettes from the women’s line.  Sherwani, long kurta’s, side pleated trousers and band gala are showcased for menswear on the runway.

Some six years back a pretty chirpy girl awed us with her poignant performance as a visually challenged girl in movie Black. Over the years Ayesha has grown up to create ripples in the fashion industry by letting the artist in her run riot. Her latest endeavour is the launch of her largest ever flagship store at Infinity Mall, Malad, Mumbai.

The Ayesha store houses the funkiest of accessories with the splash of colors to sweep any fashionista off her feet. Injecting the doses of fun is the ambience of the store which is painted in a gorgeous pink and purple combination. Fun graphics of stars and hexagonal displays add interest and make shopping a whole lot of fun, while the peppy music and dancing laser lights. The well-organized settings display accessories color wise against a dark background which screams aloud for your attention.

About her store this 16 year old designer says, “The new multi colour bead necklaces, the scarves and the bangles totally rock my current urban gypsy look.”

The charm of denim lies in its versatility. This beggarly yet princely piece of cloth comes with an assurance of never leaving you in the lurch. It’s always there like a complaisant man to rescue on dawn of some fashion dilemmas. I trust him like I do my man. My first independent denim buy is etched in golden words somewhere in my head. It was a rugged acid washed Espirit jacket which I bought to satiate the ‘Motorcycle Diaries’ fantasies of a typical 16 year old girl in me. It’s nostalgic and rests in peace in the inner recesses of my wardrobe.

In practical fashion, form follows function. And it’s well authenticated by none other than denim jackets. Comfortable, distinctive, rugged, carefree yet so chic and sophisticated, denim jacket is an ‘it’ garment of Spring Summer 2011. It is back this season with an ease and can be worn the way you like it as designers are somehow obsessed with its versatility.  Wear it with a dress, skirt, jumpsuit, long maxi dresses, capris, jeans and tights and rediscover the diva in you. Denim this season is more about smooth textures rendering a quite sophisticated look. Ask Stella Mc Cartney, Derek Lam and Elie Tahari about their love for smooth refined denims whereas Just Cavalli’s denim hats and stone washed jackets and pants can make any true hippie scream loud in excitement to grab it.

It was the 80’s counterculture anti fashion vibe which made denim popular. Three decades later, it’s no more rebellious to wear denim. Anti-fashion transcended to fashion. Simple and classic denim jackets are hot favorite of Hollywood stars either, are their love for them can be easily noticed in their daily errands. The newest butt, oopz bud in the fashion circles, Pippa Middleton gracefully embraced the bright short denim jacket with a white dress. It made the girlie look chic and stylish. Alexis Krauss paint splashed leggings with patterned back denim jacket is undoubtedly chic. I am helplessly into it.

It seems like celebs are totally gaga over denim jackets this season. Look at Kim’s look. A Maxi paired with denim jacket is so comfy and summery. And Blake Lively blends bohemianism with sophistication by pairing her jacket with a sarong. Cropped to waist length structured denim jackets in blues, blacks and greys are a wardrobe staple this season. Cameron Diaz. Jessica Alba, Resse Witherspoon, Emma Watson and Rachel Bilson further attest the trend.

Diesel Island, land of the stupid, home of the brave is the next place for all denim lovers. Diesel’s new advertisement campaign traces a brief fictional history to the independent Island, or nation where all Diesel consumers reside.

The campaign brilliantly renders a distinctive identity to the Diesel followers by showing this collective messianism for the brand. It’s further bound by a flag made of three jeans. The so called home of big balled people who love to indulge in stupidity is the place for free flowing unscrupulous youth to be. Group showers and three hours of sex just to populate the island exude enough sexual energy to make you cruise to Diesel Island and be a native. No matter how much you have to bribe.

Kudos to this advertisement unifying all Diesel lovers and nagging others to be a part of it through its acerbic witty one liners.

A lot of designers are showing concern towards the environment; et added to the list is Wendell Rodricks avec his ‘Himalayan Live Natural Collection’. Sourendra Kumar Das meets the designer at the Lakme Fashion Week’s preview at Olive Bar & Kitchen in Bandra et brings forth the facets of his newest collection…

The designer who has been in the casket of la facon industry for 22 years feels fashion has become an integral part of his life. “I have drawn inspiration from the explosion of life et motion that denotes water in its purest form et used all natural fabrics,” revealed Rodricks.

The designer is known for his silhouettes, styling et innovative use of fabrics and this season he is all set to embrace the fashionistas. “My newest collection is an amalgamation of pastel shades et fuchsia complementing the innovative shapes et designs made of natural et organic materials,” said the designer who will pair la modish outfits avec chic footwear.

Born et brought up in Goa, Rodricks tells that his show will be so soothing for his fans to watch that they will feel rejuvenated once they are out of la foyer. “Give back to Nature who gives us everything to live, Live Natural,” signs off the designer avec a smile.

The ‘Himalyan Live Natural’ show by Wendell Rodricks at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive will be held on August 20, 2011 at 9pm at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Mumbai.
