Sportsman turned model, Saqib Qureshi, who calls himself a boy-next-door has many facets on exhibition. From being philosophical to incorrigibly romantic, this lad from Hindu College can make you go head over heels with his dribbling-ly innocent looks and husky voice. Epitomizing paradoxes, the non-conformist (…..sic) Saqib doesn’t drink and smoke and shirk partying.

Having scorched enough ramps and scalded almost every heart (either out of envy or awe), swoons blowing Saqib has been the face for the brands like Fast Trak, Vodafone, Tata Docomo and KFC ( latest in the ledger of accolades). So we caught up with the garrulously understated Saqib Qureshi, revealing his genius and story teller out.

Tell us briefly about your formative years?
I was a sportsman. I played for J.K and Delhi. One day while playing cricket in the college, I injured my knee and there I found modeling as a good alternative. I joined it and got a motivating response. So I was on the ramp by the final year of my college. After working for a year in Delhi, I shifted to Mumbai as it is a commercial hub while Delhi is more fashion centric.

So how has been your journey till date?
My journey has been quite good. I never thought I could model. I enjoy doing it and more importantly, I learnt a lot about myself. I evolved as a person. You get to meet a lot of people and travel a lot of places, so it’s a great learning process besides being fun.

What was your parents’ reaction when you chose modeling as a career?
To be true, they were all reluctant when I told them that I wanted to model, but once I started working they turned out to be my biggest stimulus.

How is Saqib as a person? What all is he concocted of?
I am a normal person who loves his work and family most. I am not at all a party person. I don’t drink and smoke, so I don’t want any negative energy trawling me. I only go to the official parties and probably, I am the last person to visit a party and that too if it is unavoidable.

Which shows( designers) and commercials have you graced with your presence?
I have been modeling for last years and already done hundereds of ramp shows. I have had associated with FastTrak, Tata Docomo, Tata Indica, Vodafone, KFC and many more. Moreover, I have shot for the magazines like Men, M and Business Today.

When not modeling what are you most likely to be found doing?
I am a big bollywood buff. I am almost addicted to movies. Apart from being lost in movies I go to gym and hang around……..(laughs).

What does Fashion mean to you?
Fashion is a statement. Your clothes speak a lot about you but comfort precedes fashion for me. Primarily, you must be comfortable and ‘all you’ without falling victim to fashion.

What is modeling all about? How does it work in India?
Modeling is all about individuality. Its all about being ‘I am so’. Earlier beefed up and broad types were given priority but now lean is in or I must say that anyone who believes in himself can fetch a good work for him. Everybody is accepted these days provided he has something of his own to show. Photocopies or hard core stereotypes better stay away from it.

Where does Indian modeling industry stand vis-à-vis its international contemporaries?
Though comparison is unjustifiable as we are inchoate but I think It’s coming up, and that too quite rapidly. From a male model’s perspective, I think organizing Men’s Week is a sort of boon for it, giving it an insignia of exclusivity.

What’s your viewpoint on increasing number of fashion weeks in India?
Increasing number of weeks has its own pros and cons. On one hand quality gets down, same collection is shown repeatedly. And on the other hand, models get loads of work.

What is your idea of an ideal date?
My idea of an ideal date – it’s with a person you like most. Its all about a moment. Whether u eat ‘Vada Pav’ with her on street, it doesn’t matter. It just happens.

What is your greatest achievement till date?
I am surviving in the city like Mumbai all on my own for last 2 year. I am not that materialistic so I am happy enjoying my work here and I think it is my biggest achievement…….:)

Innovative shapes and molds flirting vivaciously with the fabric, the fulcrum agenda of her garments is elegance and sophistication designed for the femme fatale. As Prerna Bharadwaj at Prakriti Design Studio creates a magnamous array of women’s attire where drapes and cuts play the pivotal role in her creations.

Taking inspiration from the ripples in the water which add movement and life to the otherwise monotone of the calm seas Prerna is also a strong believer in the globalization of fashion. The specialty of her creations is fusion, wherein the Victorian charm and aura are seamlessly blended with the Indian creativity, and diverse Indian ethos are amalgamated with International trends to produce the urban chic. The designs from her collection are an edgy, prêt-a-porter, sophisticated line with a vibrant, regal feel.

The essence of Prakriti Design Studio is to yield eclectic range of clothing which can transform fashion from a faraway runway utopia to smart, wearable and meaningful fashion. The range is available at Zarrah, Bangalore; Simayaa, Kolkata; Aakriti, Delhi; and Miraya, Jaipur.

A celebration of bridal styles and traditional creativity with a twist, as Melange at Altamount Road, Mumbai welcomes the forthcoming season of weddings and festive occasions. Melange showcases the new Bridal 2010 collections of three designers: Anuradha Vakil, Krishna Mehta and Accessories by Malini Agarwalla.

Krishna Mehta presents a timeless collection of magical and alluring ensembles, romantically synchronized, with simple elegance. Her creations are reminiscent of a season where colours bloom and there’s a rhythm in every silhouette. The fine muslins, luminous chiffons and georgettes in rich reds, royal pinks, burnt oranges, and sunset yellows to the softer ivory and beiges meet in geometric studied compositions with beads, crystals, sequins and even woven gota embroidery to give Krishna’s collection a joyful, colorful twist.

Anuradha Vakil presents her signature design sensibility that breathes fresh life in to an age-old textile craft: tie & dye.   Bold, geometrical patterns created in finest workmanship on hand-woven silk grounds, combined with exquisite silver and gold kalabattun embroideries, create dazzling pieces of work – classical, timeless and head turning as always. An Anuradha Vakil creation is an heirloom piece that adds a touch of royalty be it as a brides trousseau or a statement making buy for a festive occasion.

And Malini Agarwalla’s "Malaga" talks of a bygone era this season, transporting from the bohemian spirit of today to the lilting romance of the Vintage Mughal dynasty. Ancient techniques and designs from the rich cultural heritage of the Mughal era together with the use of precious stones like rubies and emeralds, lovingly handcrafted by highly skilled artisans have made this the flagship collection of Malaga. Each bag is a piece of jewellery, to be treasured as an heirloom and reveled in by several generations.
