Hair & Make-up Fashion Week 2010, starting 11th April, by Bharat and Dorris was announced over a high tea at Kafedor, Mumbai. After the success of BnD fashion week 2009, it is back with the second edition.

This time the event not only targets Mumbai but metro cities all round the country. Make-up & hair Fashion week is all about education as the make-up artist, hair dressers & beauticians come under one roof. Professionals in hair and make-up field can groom their techniques and get new ideas, looks and reorganization, as everyone across the country can’t afford to take training abroad, so this platform has been built where they can get knowledge, ideas and can unleash and polish their talent best.

At the hair and make-up fashion week there will be around ten Bollywood make-up artist & hair dressers and three beauticians, who would come on the stage and educate people about their techniques and new looks in bridal & fashion field for 2010 year. Participants would not only learn the new techniques but also get knowledge of product range and color selection.

I’ve been absolutely fascinated by Latin America and the minute I got an invitation to be part of the Buenos Aires Fashion Week, I did not give it a second thought and jumped with joy and  said Yesss!

Short and sweet the 8 days, 5 in Buneos Aires, Argentina and 3 in Sao Paulo, Brazil were interesting.   The show was part of Buneos Aires Alta Moda and the initiative to have us there was of SRTEPC’s Executive Director Smita Bharadwaj and the Indian ambassador Mr. R.Vishwanathan, as well as Monica Socolovosky, one of the most experienced designers from Argentina. Luckily Nachiket and I had stress free fittings, and a great show followed, with applause and accolades for both of us!

Girl friends were sending messages on my blackberry asking about the dishy 6 pack men, but honestly all I got to see were gorgeous beautiful women. Both the countries have real beauties, gorgeous hair and skin and fantastic bodies and a confident attitude. They love Indians, and India is hot right now thanks to the television serial ‘CAMINHO DAS INDIAS’, which is set in India, and is the most watched prime time soap in Brazil and will be aired shortly in Argentina too.

The Coffee drinking Brazil has suddenly discovered ‘Chai and samosas’. Talking to Indian restaurateur Lucky Daswani who’s settled there for 36 yrs now, said the no of Brazilians ordering chai and samosas has gone up dramatically. Indian influences are predominant with local Argentinean designers too. Argentina’s top model Ms. Dolores Barreiro has started a store called HOLII.  Right from the décor to the clothes its completely India inspired. Many other local brands have a strong Indian influence in their clothes and use Indian textiles. The synthetic & rayon export promotion council team showing their textiles at BAAM have been seeing a good growth in their orders.

From the cool restaurants and bars in Buenos Aires, to the uber fashionable stores in Sao Paulo where champagne is served all day and DJ’s spin music in trendy stores selling hip fashion, it was a WOW experience.

With Akshay R.S. Rathore a visual artist based in New Delhi, who has been practicing as a creative director for advertisements, publications and set design, set the ramp on fire for Gaurav Gupta’s show at the recent WIFW ’10/11. Born in 1978, Chindwara (Madhya Pradesh), India, he holds a BFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda and a PG from the National Institute of design, Ahmedabad.

Akshay an intriguing artist and design therapist collaborated for the first time with a fashion designer and to design the set or ramp for his collection. Gaurav’s design inspiration for the collection spelled checks all over with Victorian romance. Thus Akshay interpreted this affair in a visual blast of images that break the norm of being a single or multiple unit as he absorbingly played with pixel art. The art work cased in light boxes formed the backdrop of the ramp and these light boxed were also placed strategically on the ramp as he explores the fluidity of fabric and restriction in geometrix of Gaurav Gupta’s inspiration.

He says, “My work inspired by fashion designer Gaurav Gupta, is an intermingling of clothes and bodies, nature and man. It is both the incarnation of a real and imagined self. The idea is to record this interaction in its most basic and primitive form. I have used pieces cloth created by man’s imagination to wrap around a human form and create a poetic visual imagery, which has been explored by artists and poets from time immemorial. My work is a contemporary tribute to these lyrical sights and the sensuous, curious emotions they arise.”

Akshay has exhibited his work of art very recently at the Seven Art Gallery, where he addressed the issue of violence with the use of strong imagery titled ‘When She is Away’. Non-conventional artistic mediums such as animated video and glass sculpture aid his complex narration. Seven Art gallery is young and hip, established in 2006 by promoter Aparajita Jain with a mission to provide a curatorial and infrastructural space where new artists may be identified and motivated.

The discreet Fashion designer Jeroen Van Tuyl is celebrating his 10th year and has launched women capsule knit collection for the Winter Fall 2010/11, close   to his men’s universe.

Though Jeroen Van Tuyl is better known as a menswear designer, his first foray into fashion after his graduation from the Arnheim Institute of the Arts in 1998 was actuality in womenswear. Collaborating with his classmate Edwin de Rooij, they launched the womenswear label “Van Tuyl De Roiij,” but it was short-lived. Two years later in 2000, Jeroen Van Tuyl went solo and launched his eponymous menswear line in Paris.

Ten years had passed since then, and while making inroads in the Paris fashion scene, Jeroen Van Tuyl became known for his intellectual men’s dressing. Conceptual at times, he also made the word “angular” and “pointy” trendy.

While he is also known for his use of luxurious fabrics, knit continues to be his strong point as exemplified in the coats, trench coats and suits that his fans had learned to love. Meant for the modern man that does not accept concessions when it comes to fit and comfort, the Jeroen Van Tuyl label is contemporary while evoking a spirit of nostalgia.

And it is with this mindset that he is launching his women’s knitwear collection. Sophisticated, elegant and with an avant-garde vision, the Jeroen Van Tuyl woman mirrors the Jeroen Van Tuyl gent in his desire for excellent clothing.
The Jeroen Van Tuyl women’s collection joins Jeroen Van Tuyl men and the “Q by Jeroen van Tuyl” sneaker collection that was launched in 2008.

The Jeroen Van Tuyl labels continue to sold extensively in The Netherlands with select points of sale in France, Canada, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

Cheny Wagma is a Swiss fashion designer based in Bombay and Zürich.  She uses India as a source of materials (and inspiration) to create special designs for her creations and designs that rejects the mainstream.

When she was 3 she stole her mom’s expensive coral and turned it into necklaces for dolls. Since then the fashion addiction has never died down.

After having worked in various areas of the fashion industry and seeing the entire course of concept to consumer.  She launched her label Cheny Wagma Jewellery. Here each piece of jewellery is handmade and inspected personally by her.

The collection is for fashionistas who don’t care about brand names, and can appreciate special unique designs. The products are high quality yet reasonably priced. She retails her exclusive creations online and is soon to establish her store presence.
