A veteran in the field of Indian Fashion Design, Sulakshana Monga is a name to reckon. She is definitely an authority in Indian embroidery but her ability to churn out fresh and innovative collections year after year is Monga’s forte.

Sulakshana Monga has been in the industry for over 21 years now. Born in Bikaner and sans any formal education in the field of fashion, this spirited woman began her journey in Hauz Khas Village with merely 5 workers. With her hard work, dedication and determination, the brand Sulakshana now operates with more than 400 workers. Monga works closely and with direct association with the craftsmen to give her garments a truly charismatic and Rajasthani yet modern feel.

She manages to strike just the right balance between western sensibilities and a very Indian detailing and embroidery. Usually, her designs are for sexy yet subtle modern Indian women who likes to wear Indian wear with panache and beautiful sophistication. Her creations boast of delicate and refined styles.

Her work has an aura of richness and luxury. She frequently uses luxurious fabrics like Georgettes, brocade, Banarsi, organza, net and paper silk.

Her Indian wear is in constant demand for its sophisticated draping, exquisite construction and flawless finish. The hallmark of every Sulakshana Monga design is fresh, clear silhouettes and an amazing sense of style. She makes sure that her work is graceful, elegant and is brimming with femininity.

Monga has been a part of various fashion weeks in India and abroad and has always managed to wow onlookers. In her this year’s Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive line, she made an interesting detour and focused on western ensembles which was applauded in the fashion circuit. The silhouettes in her collection were very well tailored and had sophisticated feminine touches.

The design process starts with the choice of fabric& raw material which dictates the way to design for the duo called Abraham & Thakore…With a very distinct identity & style their designs speak for themselves.

Each Abraham & Thakore collection continues the exploration of developing a quiet and modern design voice while simultaneously drawing on the rich traditional vocabulary of Indian design and craft. The design sensibility is low key yet highly distinctive, with a strong respect for material, form and craft. A&T reiterates the belief that real luxury lies in specially crafted product in limited numbers of high quality.

This design label was initially established by David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore, graduates of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad who were later joined by Kevin Nigli, a design graduate of NIFT New Delhi. Creative director David Abraham is a Singapore born designer who focuses on reinventing the label each season to keep it contemporary, directional and relevant both in India and overseas. His first eponymous collection was launched in Bergdorf Goodman in New York. While Director Rakesh Thakore is focused on the design and development of hand-woven fabrics some of which have been included in major textile exhibitions in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London , the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and the National Museum of Hokkaido

Each ABRAHAM & THAKORE collection continues the exploration of developing a quiet and modern design voice while simultaneously drawing on the rich traditional vocabulary of Indian design and craft. An important aspect of the different collection presented each season is the very modern synergy between fashion and lifestyle with a unifying vision for the way the contemporary urban consumer dresses and lives whether in New Delhi, London or Tokyo.

Despite that, they are probably the most well-known Indian label internationally. The Conran Shop in New York, Paris and London, Graham and Green, Selfridges in London, Tad in Rome, Occo in Barcelona and Le Bon Marche in Paris are some of the world’s top fashion stores selling their designs.
