The LAP Garden Bar carries on the festivities of their Spanish summer bar festival with the introduction of the display of works by Nandita Basu and artist Siddhartha Tawadey at “Las Ramblas” the garden’s ode to the summer months in the capital. Despite the pouring rain, Fashion lovers and party goers alike, turned up ‘fashionably’ late but in large numbers to enjoy the sudden respite from the capital’s scorching heat.

Elements of “Surrealism” had been an inspiration for the display by Nandita Basu at Las Ramblas in The LAP Garden. Rooted deeply in Salvador Dali’s techniques of juxtaposing the real with surreal. A common occurrence in Dali’s works ants are chosen that represent death and decay. Another symbolic object clocks that signify time and impermanence are incorporated by the designer into installation. Dali formulated his paranoiac – critical method by cultivating self induced psychotic hallucinations. In his works “time bends” and hard objects seem like they are melting or limp, whereas, metal attracts ants like rotting flesh. Some of this key imagery has been translated by Nandita in her display.

A Dream Narrative by Siddhartha Tawadey has photographic images that attempt to initiate a dialogue with the viewer by the use of meaningful expression to truly see the dreams of the artist, and yet leave the interpretation open as he or she wishes. The Installation consists of Individual Images and Triptychs -Three Individual frames that are juxtaposed to capture an alternate sense of reality. The attempt of juxtaposed images is to bring the inner realities of the subconscious to the conscious mind, the object photographed stands as a metaphor for an inner reality. It seeks to show the meaning of the myriad analogies and symbiotic relationships that exists between elements.

Seen appreciating the installations and enjoying the Spanish Festival were Namrata Joshipura, Vidushi & Nikhil Mehra, Suneet Verma, Blanca & Nishant Peralta, Chetan and Amita Seth, Monisha Bajaj, Actor Mukul Dev, Kashif Farooq amongst many others.
