Coming from a creative background – her grandfather was a renowned painter and her father, a fashion pioneer, fashion was a natural choice for the young prodigy. At 15 years of age, Payal won the prestigious ‘Designer of the year’ award from the retail giant Shoppers’ Stop.
She then brushed up her innate creativity with an array of degrees from SNDT Mumbai, Parsons School of Design and Fashion Institute of Technology, NY. This exposure gave her a global design sensibility which she utilizes in the label she started way back in 2000.
Apart from showcasing at fashion shows in India, her collections have been shown at prestigious fashion weeks such as the Singapore Fashion Festival and the Fashion week of the Americas. This year, her show at the fourth day of LFW was a tribute to Singhal’s 10 years in the fashion industry and hence was an ensemble of the best selling and award winning pieces she has created in last decade. The collection, called Decadence, was primarily Indian and had celebrities like ex-VJ Maria Goretti, actress Tejaswini Kolhapure and television host Parizad Kolah sashaying down the ramp.
