The LAP Garden Bar carries on the festivities of their Spanish summer bar festival with the introduction of the display of works by Nandita Basu and artist Siddhartha Tawadey at “Las Ramblas” the garden’s ode to the summer months in the capital. Despite the pouring rain, Fashion lovers and party goers alike, turned up ‘fashionably’ late but in large numbers to enjoy the sudden respite from the capital’s scorching heat.

Elements of “Surrealism” had been an inspiration for the display by Nandita Basu at Las Ramblas in The LAP Garden. Rooted deeply in Salvador Dali’s techniques of juxtaposing the real with surreal. A common occurrence in Dali’s works ants are chosen that represent death and decay. Another symbolic object clocks that signify time and impermanence are incorporated by the designer into installation. Dali formulated his paranoiac – critical method by cultivating self induced psychotic hallucinations. In his works “time bends” and hard objects seem like they are melting or limp, whereas, metal attracts ants like rotting flesh. Some of this key imagery has been translated by Nandita in her display.

A Dream Narrative by Siddhartha Tawadey has photographic images that attempt to initiate a dialogue with the viewer by the use of meaningful expression to truly see the dreams of the artist, and yet leave the interpretation open as he or she wishes. The Installation consists of Individual Images and Triptychs -Three Individual frames that are juxtaposed to capture an alternate sense of reality. The attempt of juxtaposed images is to bring the inner realities of the subconscious to the conscious mind, the object photographed stands as a metaphor for an inner reality. It seeks to show the meaning of the myriad analogies and symbiotic relationships that exists between elements.

Seen appreciating the installations and enjoying the Spanish Festival were Namrata Joshipura, Vidushi & Nikhil Mehra, Suneet Verma, Blanca & Nishant Peralta, Chetan and Amita Seth, Monisha Bajaj, Actor Mukul Dev, Kashif Farooq amongst many others.

The Lap Garden Bar carries on the festivities of their Spanish summer bar festival with the introduction of the installations by Nitya Bajaj & 1986 by designers – Srishti & Deeksha at “Las Ramblas” the garden’s ode to the summer months in the capital.

Nitya Bajaj’s Installation follows three distinct stories being, Goth-Oxide: a story with importance to ego and super ego…Teamed with a new interpretation of gun metal jewellery. The second being, Acid Attack: the neon story with fluorescent colors and a blast of effervescence… Lastly, Blinged: the power of shine, using nude colors and highlighting them with crystal elements.

Of the many Ramblas, “1986’s” installation focuses on two main streets; Rambla de Sant Josep and Rambla de Caputxins. Rambla de Sant losep is also known as the Rambla de les Flors since one can find the famous florist’s stalls here, filling the whole area with the colours and scents of the flowers. Using vibrant colours and flowers on the mannequins, the designers have tried to re-create the vibrancy of this street. The uniqueness of Rambla de Caputxins or del Centre lies in its youthful street-side bars such as La Opera or Los Italianos where people go to look and be looked at. With its shops on all sides, this is perhaps the Best Rambla to watch well-dressed people going in and out of El Liceu. The mannequins themselves represent the stylish people walking down this street, while the hanger railings on either side represent the boutique culture which is very popular on this street.

In short this installation through its vibrant colours, frill dresses, floral display and boutique-ish appeal tries to re-create the atmosphere of Las Ramblas.

Rajiv Srivastava unveiled his first solo exhibition Within ) Without, capturing the quiet beauty of nothingness at Visual art gallery. The exhibition, inaugurated by Director Mahesh Bhatt, showcase the barren beauty of Jaisalmer and Ladakh created in landscapes that are not imaginary, images that are not abstract, photographs that are not unreal.

Jaisalmer – "the land of sand" is famous for its exotic sand dunes, the Fort, friendly people and interesting lifestyle. The truly glorious stretch of sweeping sand dunes rising from the Great Indian Thar Desert like a jewel has been captured by the keen eye of photographer Rajiv Srivastava. The pictures stir up a vivid image of sheer magic and brilliance synonymous with the sand dunes. The intricately layered and textured shots have captured the ethereal and timeless beauty of grains of sand sweeping and reshaping in unique patterns. The interestingly composed pictures are a visual dialogue with the awe inspiring shape shifters.

From the fluidity of Sand Dunes the photographs takes you to the gigantic, immovable and literally set in stone mountains of Ladakh. The photographer has used various times of the day to capture what can only be described as the breathtaking and fantastical view of the resolute ice capped mountains. The imagery brings out the interesting textures of the usually predominantly white shots which add remarkable details to each picture. The various angles ensured that the photographs stand out from the usual run of the mill pictures. The series gives you a blatant view of the coldest desert in the world in its true splendor.

Present at the opening were director Mahesh Bhatt, Alka Raghuvanshi, Kishore Singh, Manisha Gawde, Charu & Anupam Parashar, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Samant Chauhan, Partima Pandey, Joy Mitra, Jai & Parvesh, Kishore Singh and many more.
