Samant Chauhan showcased his work at an exclusive event organized for Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Earl of Wessex at their recent visit to Jodhpur. It was also attended by the Maharajah and Maharani of Jodhpur and invited guests.

His collection The Silk Route traced the anonymous Bhagalpur Silk to its roots infusing in it an international dimension. A colour palette of shades of beige came together in this rich collection. The collection was an ode to ethical fashion that looks beyond commercial parables to a story of nurturing weaves and their origin. Their Royal Highnesses interacted with the selected designers who are part of the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award Programme. They were very impressed with their creativity which helped provide an insight into the fashion industry in India, one of the world’s fastest developing and most dynamic economies.

The buzz at Lakme Fashion Week fittings continues sending overflow of creativity, overdose of garments, smell of steam iron, and the noise of stitching machine. During the endless sessions of trial and fitting we go capturing the designers and models involved in soiling their sweat. We catch Anand Bhushan in histrial arena with some gorgeous gowns and avante garde drapes in metallic pacing the fittings studio with his model. Then we meet Anupama Dayal at her work station as she dresses her models in structured dresses of chiffons spelling in powder colours. Also at the fittings were caught Nachiket Barve and Narendra Kumar. The Gen Next designers were creating a lot of steaming design rendezvous with some elaborate headgears.

The commotion backstage at Lakme Fashion Week sends the blood pressure rocketing as the days for the final showcasing are right at the door. We go sneaking behind the stage to catch the Making of the Design. The ongoing endless sessions of trial and fitting and last minute touches, stitching, mix and match of accessories is the most essential part of any fashion week to put up that picture perfect show. We caught Asmita Marwa in her trial arena with white relaxed cotton gowns on models that are splashed in grey strokes. Moving ahead we meet Pria Kataria Puri’s at her work station as she was dressing her red queens in wooden beaded garlands around the waist. Krishna Mehta seemed all charged up with her retro girls glittering. With the temperature rising Swapnil Shinde has already discovered his retreat in space as we capture him fitting his two paneled futuristic skirt on a model. Leena Tipnis is creating buzz backstage with her luxe bark brown girls and turquoise embellishment. While Payal Singhal has fitted emeralds around elaborate neckline and relaxed silhouettes.

Karl Lagerfeld was spotted on the streets of downtown Manhattan, Soho and the Lower East Side to be exact, to shoot current muse Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee Kershaw for the F/W 2010 Chanel campaign. The pair replaces supermodel Claudia Schiffer, who is the current face of Chanel’s collection. The designer shot mostly from a crane lift while the duo posed on the fire escape of a brownstone building sporting looks from the fall’s faux-fur-lined, arctic themed collection. André Leon Talley confirmed on his Twitter page that Lagerfeld is in New York to shoot both the fall 2010 Chanel and Fendi campaigns.
