FDCI announces dates for India Fashion Week AW 2017, next year

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced hte dates for the Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2017 and Autumn-Winter 2017 in the months of October 2016 and March 2017, respectively.

The Spring-Summer 2017 edition will take the story forward by continuing to celebrate “India Modern”, showered with festivities, without losing focus of tradition by paying homage to handlooms and textiles. The much-awaited bi-annual event will be held from Oct 12-16, 2016 in New Delhi at the NSIC grounds.

Defining looks that will shape the sensibilities of those championing a new wave in the style horizon, next year’s Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2017 will be held from March 15-19, 2017 in New Delhi will see many leaving an extraordinary legacy behind with their cutting edge aesthetics.

Announcing the dates, Sunil Sethi, President FDCI said, “We are excited to announce the dates of the AIFW Spring-Summer’17 and AIFW Autumn-Winter’17. While the AIFW Spring-Summer’17 will see the runway awash with latest trends and captivating ideas, the AIFW Autumn-Winter’17 collections will charm the crowds into winter wonderland!”

Review 

Fashion is in love with art like never before. Blurring the lines between art and style, the TARUN TAHILIANI Autumn Winter Collection 2016 does away with the distinction, revealing clothes that transform into a breathtaking drama and sensuality.

Inspired by noted sculptor Mrinalini Mukherjee’slife size hemp and cast bronze sculptures to which the artist has breathed into them a striking semblance to organic motifs. The atelier plays with a colour palette in earthy tones which include re-imagined renditions of ravishing red, cobalt blue, charcoal, olive and rust that celebrates the onset of fall with colours from her palette.

Textured handloom fabrics are combined with contemporary silhouettes with cascades and cowl drapes on gilets, capes, concept sarees and dresses to reflect the sculptor’s ideology in a tactile and fashionable form.

The bold and colourful stripes and checks remind you of the rich visual intensity of Asian textile tradition even as the studio incorporates a gamut of textiles that lends itself to kurtas, kaftans, tunics and shift dresses. Enhanced by aari, resham, and brush embroidery and embellished with resham threads, and antique gold sequins, the collection presents a natural feel to fabrics such as soft net, Italian tulle, crepe  georgette, micro pleated tulle, chanderi and heavy crepe georgette.

430Curator Seema Subbanna hosted an evening for the opening ceremony of MYSTICAL NARRATIVES by Artist Anjan Chakraverty at Alliance, Francaise, New Delhi.  MYSTICAL NARRATIVES, based on Yoginis and tree-goddesses, devis and nymphs are the presiding characters and all having a dialogue with nature was inaugurated by Neelam Pratap Rudy.

Aarti Vijay Gupta to Present Winter Garden at LFW W/F16

Fall has always been a period of nostalgia for me. I used to spend hours looking out of the window at a beautiful Winter Garden, fascinated by flowers turning into a deep shade of aubergine, trees shedding leaves, and the streets being filled with ochre and red leaves, says the designer about her upcoming showcase at LFW W/F 16.

The collection is an eclectic mix of art prints juxtaposed with organic fabrics and textures- Notebook stripes, bold fonts and scripts are softened with vintage florals and garden prints.

The silhouettes move from structured to oversize and deconstructed; and the colour palette goes from bright to rustic and earthy, reminiscent of the transition of a flower from summer to fall.

Known for his understated elegance and timeless classics, Rohit Bal has collaborated for the first time with the artisans and crystal cutters of Czech Republic, Slovakia and Central Europe to create an exclusive crystal collection.

The designs, shapes, motifs are all in the classic Rohit Bal inimitable style with a very strong Indian sensibility that lends itself to incredible European Craftsmanship and hand cut crystals of the finest quality.

The collection is made of 24 percent lead crystal, completely handmade by the artisans and crystal cutters of Bratislava. The collection varies from limited edition tableware to collectible ornamental objects that include bowls, vases, tea sets, platters, salvers, vases and urns. The borders and bases have been crafted in 24K gold and the pure Platinum.

The collection also includes an affordable Tableware range in the form of glasses – champagne flutes, red wine and white wine glasses, water goblets, tumblers for whisky and decanters all in crystal.

My Burberry Black

Burberry Introduces My Burberry Black – an intense and sensual interpretation of the iconic fragrance My Burberry. Created by Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey in collaboration with renowned perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, the fragrance is inspired by the black Burberry Heritage Trench Coat.

Fusing the scent of sun-drenched jasmine flower and peach nectar with a touch of rose. This signature rose note at the heart of My Burberry is given a sweet and inviting candied twist, while rich amber patchouli rounds off the scent for a deep and captivating finish.

The fragrance is housed in a rich, amber-coloured glass bottle, whose overall design reflects the details of the black Burberry Heritage Trench Coat. A dark horn-finish cap echoes its distinctive buttons and the hand-tied black English-woven gabardine knot – made in Castleford, Yorkshire.

The bottle is presented in a black box with a gabardine-inspired texture, embossed with a golden knot.

Curtain Raiser LFW W/F16

In its 17 th year, upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week’s has a stellar line-up of 92 participating designers showcasing their collection from the 24 th August to 28 th August, 2016 at The St. Regis, Mumbai.

Sabyasachi will open the fashion week while Tarun Tahiliani will be the grand finale designer. Sustainability and Indian Handlooms with a special focus on ‘Made in Assam’ will be presented on 25 th August.

In 2015, the USA finally got on board with the majority of the western world by legalizing gay marriage, giving hope to a number of people across the country. However, in 2016 things took a step backwards, with the transphobic bathroom laws, not to forget the mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub.

Coming back to India, in 2014, the Supreme Court accorded the status of third gender to transgender people, giving them the write to determine the gender they identify with. Further in 2015, three regional parties have moved private member bill in Parliament for their welfare. Last month, union cabinet moved legislation for offences against them. However self definition and job reservations are absent in the new bill.

And that’s not all, with the number of suicides increasing among LGBT identified young people, the next few years don’t look too promising However, that’s not to say that things aren’t improving. The LGBT community now, more than ever, is at their most prominent. With more and more individuals in the public eye coming out, and a more relaxed stance on the majority of attitudes towards sex and sexuality, it is a time where LGBT voices are finally being heard.
