The Mr Porter Paperback (Slipcase Edition)

by Jeremy Langmead and John Brodie (Thames & Hudson)

Specialists in customized jewellery since 1981, Jet Gems are all set to launch Canvas collection with Nishka Lulla, Nikhil Thampi and Nachiket Barve to appeal to the contemporary, whimsical woman. An artistic collaboration with free flowing creative expression, the collection features pieces that are carefully crafted and designed to be worn daily and at work, says Pradeep Jethani, owner of Jet Gems.

While Nishka Lulla, celebrated for her fairytale inspired style, adds her magical touch to the collection which draws from nature, her statement pieces have an edgy twist with the use of red tourmalines, green peridots and aqua blue stones.

Whereas Nachiket Barve, lends his modern aesthetics to the Canvas pieces, taking inspiration from his ‘Chiaroscuro’ collection. The other part of his collection features the ‘diamond dew drop’ line where the textures of hand sculpted metal, prominently gold, is celebrated in the motifs of lotus and water lily leaves.

Nikhil Thampi adds his signature style and a balance of structure and fluidity to the collection. Encompassing an interesting mix of long earrings and geometric rings, Nikhil throws in a playful mix of beautifully shaped coloured stones in every piece.

Just when everybody predicted flared denims are the trends, Mathew Adams Dolan subvert our idea with his SS16 collection, which is not only unisex, but it features garments cut into exaggerated and cartoonishly large shapes, making each piece demographic-free and accessible to anyone.

2His interest in the evolution of the American style continues to inform his work and played a key role in his decision to further his studies by undertaking the MFA Fashion Design and Society program at Parsons. In addition to the brand’s democratic nature, Dolan also attempts to infuse a sense of comfort into his clothes – his SS16 collection is inspired by the everyday uniform and an upbringing in suburban Australia, where jeans were the base of every outfit. Sweatpants with slits, hand-frayed, mop-like Vans sneakers and overstated denim jackets are just a taste of the elevated basics Dolan creates.

1The Indian bride today is embracing traditions with elegance and style. And choosing the right colours, silhouettes, jewellery, designs is all important.  Ace fashion designer Anushree Reddy, known for her trendy and classic ensembles shares the rules to follow when shopping for your bridal trousseau. Be it selecting an outfit for the pre-wedding functions or the wedding day itself, there are a lot of smart choices a modern bride of today can make.

According to Anushree, a bride or a bride to be is like the showstopper at a fashion show, everyone is awaiting her entry and is looking forward to catch a glance of her ensemble. So making a statement is essential, but so is staying true to one’s personality and style statement especially at the pre-wedding functions like the Sangeet, Mehendi and Cocktail.

Anushree, whose brand stands out for its bursts of vivacious colours, glamour, and easy-to-wear garments believes the influence of Indian culture and contemporary style can be blended well while choosing your clothes and jewellery. This season, over-the-top is out, delicate and bold is in. Anushree says, “Platinum can be teamed beautifully with pastels, florals, paisleys and most wedding colours to create a statement ensemble.  More and more brides are opting for minimalistic jewellery.”

2

BE CLASSY: At your pre-wedding functions like the mehendi or sangeet which are lively affairs and all about traditions, choose your outfit and jewellery based on the theme. The silhouettes that work well for a pre-wedding function are long embellished jackets, crop tops and flowy skirts which are in trend. Other options are capes, dhoti pants teamed with a nice indo-western kurta. Make sure your jewellery selection for these occasions include wearable designs that can transform an ensemble. Settle for designs that are elegant and classic. Platinum is the perfect reflection of the perfect balance of modernity with traditions and will make you look like a diva.

GO WITH GRACE: Wedding outfits should never be embellished from head to toe. Only one element of the ensemble should be well embellished- either the lehenga or the dupata, or the choli. Underplay the other things that you team, so you feel comfortable and yet look elegant. Indo-Western seems to be the current theme in most wedding clothes styles.

Anushree says simple makes for the best entrance. Delicate, elegant and contemporary designs in platinum are trending which can be worn anytime of the day and with any outfit and help you achieve an effortless glamorous look without going over the top.

TIMELESS STYLE: At every other function you have themes and colours that you need to follow, but it is essential to pay attention to what it highlights, so choose a dress that accentuates your best features and can be worn beyond just one occasion. From lehengas in romantic hues of powder pink to soft lilac and floral accents, will help you create a dreamy fairy-tale outfit. For jewellery, definitely opt for a metal which is eternal. Choose a timeless and beautifully crafted necklace and earring set for your wedding, which can be passed on to your future generations to come. Platinum is an eternal metal which does not fade or tarnish with time and best suited for heirloom jewellery. So this is certainly a thing to add to your collection and make history

946071_671976209493204_1481167830_nHow will we wear our future? Create a piece of wearable art that expresses your feelings about climate change, was the idea behind climate change fashion showcase which aims at mobilizing our collective creativity to deliver the most important political message of our times .

More than 100 people packed the Boathouse on Tuesday evening to view the spectacle, which was organised by a group of volunteers keen to bring the topic of climate change to the table.  Approximately 20 participants aged between16 to 65, entered their own designs for the show at Nelson, in enthusiasm of United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Paris, France, with an objective to achieve a legally binding and global agreement on climate from all the nations of the world. 1

The winning design, made by Stella Bogdanoff, took 100 hours of work to create with a range of materials including old ripped jeans. Another one was made from dry fish skin, involved skinning and curing the fish, then sewing it like linen.

Gay Cano, the organizer feel this is just the beginning – there would be more events to raise awareness for climate change to come.
