God Save My ShoesThe women and shoes have this kind of explicit love affair bordering on the domains of obsession and compulsion. Such is the bonding that women happen to throw endearments and name their favourite heels. And somehow testimonial is the documentary, ‘God Save My Shoes’ by film maker Julie Benasra, which was theatrically unveiled recently in America.

A film about the passion and obsession of women for shoes was first premiered in Paris during Spring Summer 2012 and involved the big names of fashion – including Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Pierre Hardy, Dita Von Teese, Vivienne Westwood and Fergie. The film comes as a quest to decipher from different perspectives – psychological, social, historical and erotic – the fiery emotions that shoes exert on most women.

The all-consuming love affair of women with their shoes is well endorsed in the film by designers like Christian Louboutin stating, “Women have a carnal relationship with their shoes. The shoe is not an object. It’s their prerogative.” Whereas another interviewee ended up saying, “An arched foot is a foot having orgasm.”

One of the India’s biggest luxury fashion houses, Kimaya launched bespoke Italian menswear label Via Montenapo at its store in UB City Mall, Bangalore.

The label known for its custom made men’s shirts styled by Milan based designer Francesco Rossi came up with its Spring Summer 2012 collections – the ethnic driven ‘Classic’, the neo-traditional ‘Sporty’ and the epical ‘Luxury’ – all launched through an innovative fashion showcasing seeing male models of Italian and Indian body types sashaying down the elevated granite ramp. The show was directed and hosted by ace choreographer, Prasad Bidappa.

About the event, Pradeep Hirani of Kimaya Fashion said, “Bangalore is a city buzzing with life and cosmopolitan crowd, while UB City is one of the most luxurious properties in the country. Together it is a win-win for the Kimaya store in Bangalore. The men in Bangalore are extremely fashion conscious and have the taste to spend on the finer things in life. Most of them accompany the women patrons at Kimaya and we have always been flooded with requests to cater to the fashion needs of the men too. Via Montenapo is a step in this direction. The philosophy of Cancilini and the brand mix of Kimaya are a perfect fit.”

If you are a short man, say less than 5’8”, you might be well annoyed, if you are that stickler kind of a being, of ill fits and not-so-flattering ready-to-wear apparels available on high street.

Indeed, the root of this annoyance lies in the fact that sizing is done considering the taller men mostly, so what about shorter ones (better we say, 5’8” and under, according to Peter Manning)? Get an inch trimmed from here and two from there, put scissors to your newbies, or turn your ill fits into profits, and venture into a clothing line for men not-so-tall.  Peter Manning, 5’8”-foot award winning theatre producer and real estate developer from Manhattan opted for latter one.

On account of the trouble he has been facing since childhood to find clothes of his size, he introduced an eponymous menswear label lately, for men of his height and shorter. Founded on the simple premise of catering a particular height group, the label has kept the look classic American, creating straight legged chinos, solid polo shirts, crew neck cotton sweaters.

The clothes are created deliberately to make the wearer look taller; narrow legged, low riding pants and shirts ending just below the waist. The entire collection is designed by designer-cum-stylist Tyler Wray, and is available only online as of now.
