The high tea event became a ladies day out with hordes of celebrities and socialites with the likes of Zeenat Aman, Pooja Bedi, Divya Dutta, Udita Goswami, Parizaad Kolah-Marshall, Suchitra Pillai, Tanisha Mukherji, Tisca Chopra, Sophie Choudhry, Shaina NC, Kitu Gidwani, Leena Mogre, Amna Sharif, Arzoo Govitrikar, Manjari Phadnis, Narayani Shastri, Smilie Surie and Mrinalini Sharma pampered themselves to some of the natural spa therapies. Shweta Kawatra, Manav Gohil, Vatsal Seth and MNS MLA Nitin Sardesai also dropped by.

The Friday night couldn’t be more happening for the social circuit of the city as Channel V set the spirits high with its launch of [v] Spot Café + Bar at Saket with the best of the gourmet and music, along with laid back ambience to let the attendees unleash their party horns.

The red carpet maze like entry lead one to the dim-red-yellow light basked open air relaxed settings under the starry night. The adjacent enclosed area had the vibe of the perfect night club with DJ Milena on console and people swinging to the music along with laughs, screams and whispers while downing their favorite drink. The clinking glasses, flattering epithets and tapping feet made for the other sounds.

Going by the sweltering Delhi summers most of the people were casually dressed in t- shirts and denims. The style ante was being upped by our fashion fraternity flocking at the venue. The who’s who of the city soaring the glam quotient included Rohit Bal, Arjun Rampal, Aparna Behl, Ayesha Thapar, Ayaan ali Khan, Gaurav Gupta, Rohit Gandhi, Gauri & Nainika, Nipa Asharam, Prem Kamath, Laxmi Rana, Rima & Shantanu Mehra, Sapna Kumar & AD Singh and many more.

Move over stripes and florals, this summer we are dishing out some sumptuous fruits for fashion. Confused? Well wearing cherries on your ears, lemons on your shirt and bananas on your feet may sound a bit unusual, but fruit fashion is big this season.

According to designers like Stella McCartney, Prada and the likes, fruits aren’t just for eating as their Spring/Summer 2011 collection was full of fruity inspiration. From actual fruit prints to citrus colours, fashion this season is embracing all things juicy. Besides summer demands cool outfits and what can be cooler than these delectable fruits, eh! 

 Prada and Stella McCartney are two very obvious examples of trend as fruit prints were splashed all over their dresses, skirts and tops, as well as accessories such as bags, earrings and shoes. Another one to embrace this trend is shoe designer Charlotte Olympia. This summer she incorporated a lot of fruit references in her collection. Charlotte got inspired from a fruit bowl for her accessories and designed a clutch bag in a shape of a banana and a pair of heels in the shapes of various fruits.

Blame these talented designers for bringing back this tropical trend but fruit print isn’t a new trend per se. Just like everything else, this trend has also time travelled its way back to the summer of 2011. Now, we know this trend can be a little overwhelming as you don’t want to end up looking like a fruit basket. So if you are going to try this trend, we suggest wear it in classic silhouettes like a full A-line skirt or an empire waist dress. A fruit print cardigan will make for a very chic statement when teamed with skinny jeans. But if you think this trend is not for you, you certainly can’t go wrong with a cute pair of strawberry earrings or cherry wedges.

So there you have it, colourful and vibrant prints are definitely a must-have this summer. You can fulfill your fetish for this trend by wearing clothes and accessories from designers such as Stella McCartney, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada. But if you aren’t willing to burn a hole in your pocket by shelling this much, you can try high-street brands like Topshop, Zara, Mango and Debenhams.

Recently, there is a lot of speculation about the ‘Doomsday’. If the world is ending or not – is still an outlook, so we have to wait and watch. But how we have evolved from our past is remarkable. I always have this paradoxical feeling between life with and without modern technology, we are in the generation of advanced technology and life seems impossible without it. But art was at its peak even without high-technology or lightning electricity. I am speaking about the ‘Impressionist Period’. Impressionist painting remains the most attractive period in the history of modern art and the most appreciated by the public.

At the ‘Palazzo Reale’ Milano there is a display of French Impressionist Art from the collection of Robert Sterling Clark who was the grandson of a founding partner of the singer sewing machine company. He grew up in a wealthy New York family with parents who were themselves art collectors and patrons. Clark began seriously acquiring art in 1912, when he was thirty-five years old. As a collector Clark was a maverick, disregarding the fashions of the art world and describing art historians as ‘lacking entirely an eye that appreciates what is good.’

He is best known for collecting Impressionist Art from the 19th century, but he also showed interest in the Renaissance paintings. Clark was self-trained connoisseur, learning through reading, visiting galleries, attending auctions and developing relationships with art dealers-most notably the Durand-Ruel family. Interestingly he also relied deeply on the opinion of his wife Francine. He once described her as ‘an excellent judge, much better than himself at times’ also referring her as ‘touch stone in judging pictures.’

A mere six months after the opening of the Institute in 1955, Sterling Clark died, having amassed over three hundred paintings, many of which are considered masterpieces. And speaking about these great French paintings in the second half of the 19th century represent a crossroads in the history of art. This was a period of change and experimentation, even revolution, in society and politics as well as in the arts. For many painters, the tradition of the grand manner inherited from the Old masters and sanctioned by the Academie des Beaux Arts and its official Salon exhibitions, remained the highest calling for art. Others rejected the techniques and subjects of past art and sought to define a new painting based in nature and dedicated to representing the rich variations of the modern world.

The most significant of these avant-garde artists were soon known as the Impressionists, who often painted en plein air to capture the fleeting effects of light and shadow. Unlike academic painters the impressionists wanted to paint modern subjects in a unique manner to be distinguished. Frequently rejected by the academicians and the Salon juries, they decided to work together and started organizing independent exhibitions. This was a vast factor that changed the whole modern art era. These exhibitions presented extraordinary master pieces, decorative and evocative paintings of the fin-de-siècle.

The core of the Clark collection however remains a large group of paintings by the most eminent artist of the Impressionist Period. Like Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Their collections were from every Impressionist category landscape, portraits, nudes and still life pictures. But Renoir remained the favorite for them and they eventually acquired thirty nine of his paintings.

British Designer Sir Paul Smith’s partnership to design and supply formalwear and accessories for Manchester United’s forthcoming UEFA Champions League Final marks the final year of the 3 years of association between the fashion legend and the football icons.

The MU players in elegant Paul Smith grey two button wool/mohair suits, worn with a white cotton shirts and burgundy silk polka dot ties lately appeared travelling to and from Wembley Stadium for the Championship League final.

Paul Smith Ltd entered into an agreement with MUFC to supply formal wear for players and staff for a three year term in May 2008.  This consisted of a navy 100% wool ‘blazer’ style suit that will be worn by all players, coaching staff and club staff to all matches. At the same time Paul Smith also designed exclusive suits when MUFC qualify for any Cup final’s i.e. FA Cup, Champions League Cup Final. It also supplied Paul Smith designed and branded gifts for MUFC corporate sponsors.

FDCI announced new dates for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012, which is now scheduled for Oct 8-12, 2011 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The event was initially scheduled for the month of September.

Mr. Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI said, “The upcoming Spring/Summer edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week has been rescheduled to October. This is primarily due to the conflicting dates with other international fashion events and the non availability of the Hall no. 18 at Pragati Maidan that has become the standard venue for WIFW. We look forward to the best of Indian fashion designers participating in the event.”

Puma has levitated fashion to a new-fangled level where amateur artists came and used their ingenuity to design in-vogue flip-flops that they want to sport. ‘Pimp your Soul’ is the initiative that gave fresh talents a dais to parade their artistic ability on a revered canvas.
 
The contest saw designs of over 100 artists who were judged by 1.5 million Puma fans from various social networking sites. The frontrunners were Duncan Viegas, duo Zainali & Azra Jetha, Girja Naiksatam and Vandana R Swamy who took away the laurels.
 
Viegas, a Goan tattoo artiste came to Puma for shopping, and for fun’s sake tinted on a flip-flop sole. “On my flip-flop, I have dyed a bee-civilization where they subsist as artlessly in a realm that exists akin to our curbed human world,” revealed the artiste.
 
Fêted for his trendy, uptown and chic designs coveted designer Narendra Kumar unveiled the au-courant flip-flops. “I believe that these youngsters have got a marvelous plinth and they should make the most out of it,” signed off Kumar.
