During designers recent trip to Imphal, he chanced upon the work of local artisans from the region. From wicker baskets to woven outfits, their craft seemed elementary at first, changed his perception as he dwelt upon their profoundly simple yet honest work. ‘Meitei’, as the local populace is called, became the starting point of his SS’18 collection, reliving the magic of this wondrously beautiful place, their craft and culture.

Showcasing element of ‘weave’ in embroideries, juxtaposed floral prints with geometric patterns and mingled the city-chic with rustic charm in sunrise sunset palette of medal lion yellows, pale pinks, azure blues and indigos. The silhouette, complete with layering, offer endless options for ensembles to be deconstructed for easy separates.

Meitei as artisans have a knack for turning everyday utilitarian objects into veritable pieces of art, their wicker baskets, for example, are not just functional but equally delightful as fashion accessory as Vineet converted them into playful bags adorned with quirky fringe detailing.
