Shriya Som at Lakme fashion week S/R 2016

Marking her debut in fashion industry, designer Shriya Som unveiled her elaborate and opulent collection ‘Ebb & Flow’ at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016.

Her début collection for SS 16 is inspired by the journey of the life of a flower and an interpretation of its droopy wilted forms. The collection has been envisioned as the metaphorical contrast of the origin and blossoming of life, depicted through paradoxical elements like sheer and opaque fabrication along with stark and flowy silhouettes. The fringing technique lends to the dynamism of movement symbolic of  the  swaying of a flower and adds to the romanticism of  the classic silhouettes in pale powdery, tonal contrasts in the ready to wear womens collection.

The showstopper dress was a gorgeous ensemble, a 15-meter skirt made of organza and chantilly lace. The off-white skirt was covered with 1500 gold paillete flowers, 60 rose gold Swarovski flowers and a gold fringe with a dramatic 5 feet trail.

The couture collection of evening dresses and gowns and voluminous skirts with crop tops is rendered with intricate beading technique in droopy wilted dark colours progressing from nude to tangerine to rogue red and stark black. There is an edgy vibe to the evening wear with its fringing details, tone on tone qualities and textural contrasts.
