All that glitters is not gold. Maybe it’s a Gaurav Gupta collection. Glitter, gold, glam – the fall-winter ‘16/17 collection from Gaurav Gupta was his usual avant-garde and so much more. MELT being the concept behind the collection, Gupta said he was appalled by the climate change and the apocalypse that’s upon us. Using zero waste, his collection spoke about the same.

Staying true to his concept, Gupta’s colour palette ranged from red, white, black and blue. It is remarkable how he churned out his concept into ballrooms gowns that were quite literally a vision.

The collection started out with gowns with midriff baring details Gupta is known for. He went on to vary his gowns to darker hues, embellished with marbled gold, power shoulders and ruffles all over.

Most of the gowns showcased were form-fitting and with a mermaid silhouette. Made with fabrics ranging from sparking jersey and silk, the gowns were accessorised with bouncing frockcoats and asymmetrical jackets. His collection embodied the dark midnight.
