Ritu Kumar presented the designer’s much anticipated couture show ‘The Falaknuma Collection’ in Mumbai at the Taj Lands End. The exceptional collection highlights the heritage of craftsmanship that the city of royal Hyderabad is renowned for. The Falaknuma Show has been inspired by the interiors of the famed palace of Hyderabad and integrates the tradition of fine sensitivity of textile craft and design. Both these elements have been revived to fit into a modern idiom of sartorial elegance and fine hospitality.

Some of the aesthetics are from long forgotten archives being presented perhaps for the first time on the ramp. This fashion presentation showcased bridal couture, red-carpet couture, along with rustic fun elements of ethnic diffusion. Highlighting the anthropological importance of craft fashion in India, an audiovisual accompanied the four sequences, specially created for the show by Vidyun Singh. The show was produced by Vidyun Singh and Asha Kochhar. The show ended with beauties Shabana Azmi and Dia Mirza dresed in rich Hyderabadi royal "jodas" walking the ramp and greeting the guests with a gracious adaab.

Speaking on the occasion, Ritu Kumar said, “Fashion in India more so than anywhere else in the world depends largely on an indigenous history. It has been a rewarding experience to yet again go to craft areas rich in textile tradition and revive them to suit today’s fashion.”

Seen admiring the elaborate garments were guests like Lara Dutta, Raveena Tandon, Mandira Bedi, Gul Panang, Queenie Singh, Madhoo Shah, Gauri Pohoomull, Laxmi Nair, Sheila Bhogilal, Haseena Jethmalani, Chhaya Momaya, Nisha Javeri, Sunaina Wahi, Mala Hemnani, Vanita Bhandari, Nawaz Singhania, Reena Wadhwa, Jaideep & Seema Mehrotrta, Farzana Contractor, Smita Parekh,Harsh Goenka, Sumeeta Ghai, Urvi Piramal, Rohita Doshi, Meena Raheja, Rashna Talati, Pallavi Jaikishan amongst many more of Mumbai’s beautiful people
