220London’s Bond Street prepares to host a spectacular illumination coming December to celebrate the colourful history of the world’s most illustrious luxury destination. The theme this year takes us back to the 18th century glories and hosts the re-enactment of the immortalised ‘Bond Street Loungers’.

Inspirations behind this vintage yet festive theme were the exploration into the archives and ancient heritage of the street which established as a retail Street in 1686 and is now home to over 125 of the world’s leading luxury stores, including more than 80 designer flagships which sees 1 billion pounds of annual expenditure.300

Speaking of Bond Street’s history and ancient times, it was the favourite haunt of ‘The Bond Street Loungers’-well-groomed men who walked the street and became the early fashionistas or ‘peacocks’ of their day. They were depicted in literature and art and are immortalised in a cartoon by James Gillray.

However, the 1 million pound scheme this year is dedicated to the gentlemen of the present era along with an excessive focus on the lightening scheme which includes a quarter of a million elegant LED lamps displayed as glorious white Peacocks.

As far as the designs and the other enhancements of the scheme is concerned, Beverley Aspinall, Bond Street’s Managing Director, established a panel of experts from brands that have graced the pavements of Bond Street since 1911 which include Asprey, Cartier, Charbonnel et Walker, The Fine Art Society and Fenwick.

While for the first time ever in 300 years, 6 genteel young men will surprise Bond Street shoppers with a 2014 performance of the Bond Street roll, the scheme will also pay tribute to the Coronation of King George V.

Well, after all the above tempting and luring establishments, the display will be viewed by over 10 million visitors from more than 100 international countries spending over 400 million pounds in the next seven weeks.
