Ms. Sunita Budhiraja, an entrepreneur from past 42 years, felt a strong need to inculcate some knowledge about the traditional unstitched attire, saree andits weavers who have been taking on to other better paying avenues as they are under paid.

The idea of connecting women who wear saree through social media crossed her mind which would create demand for the hand-woven saree. With the objective of supporting weavers, she started a Facebook campaign called – Six Yards and 365 Days, with the sole idea to support the weavers, who have gone extinct.

Six yards and 365 days are more than 20,000 members now, many of whom religiously wear their hand-woven sarees with pride, and the number is growing. There are members who have posted their 50, 100th and 200th sarees.

With Six yards and 365 days,it has created a community of women, who join hands to support each other emotionally. The saree has become a reason of empowerment and inculcating a sense of pride and self-esteem in women.
