Cotton Council International Celebrated COTTONSCAPE
An event that celebrates COTTON, the fiber that loves you back

Mumbai, May 8, 2012:  Fashion and textile industry leaders gathered to celebrate COTTONSCAPE, a day dedicated to celebrating cotton in fashion.  The event featured fashion shows by Rina Dhaka, Anita Dongre and Provogue, a fashion trend forecast, denim art installation featuring fabrics from Arvind’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection as evening wear, a cotton photography exhibit, and a seminar about the future of cotton in India at the consumer level.

Celebrities from the fashion and entertainment fraternity who attended the event were Urmila Matondkar and Sangeeta Bijlani, Rakesh Vashisht, Geeta Basra, Jiah Khan Rina Dhaka, Alex O’Neil, Namrata Shroff, Nandita Mahtani and many more.

The event centered around an industry discussion panel led by the Cotton Association of India titled “Cotton Promotion in India: what has been done, what needs to be done, and why it’s important”.  The panel addressed issues facing cotton at the retail level such as eroding market share and competition from synthetic fibers.

To highlight the versatility of cotton fabric the event included a cotton art installation featuring denim fabrics by Arvind.  Let’s Design season 4 finalist Astha Narang, displayed her denim COTTONSCAPE with a series of denim evening outfits.

The evening opened with a trend presentation, by COTTONSCAPE’s fashion forecast partner, Stylesight.  The presentation gave designers and brands insight into the anticipated trends for Autumn/ Winter 2012. 

CCI honored industry members for their commitment to cotton in a glamorous award ceremony. Best Menswear in Cotton was bagged by Lecoanet Hemant while Rahul Mishra got the Best Womenswear in Cotton award. Masaba won the Emerging Influencer in Cotton, the Outstanding Achievement in Promotion of Cotton by a Designer award went to Narendra Kumar and the Outstanding Achievement in Promotion of Cotton by a brand went to Fab India. The award ceremony was broken up by three fashion shows each showing a unique side to cotton design.

The fashion show commenced with Anita Dongre’s brand, Grassroot. 

Followed by Provogue’s Spring/Summer collection 2012 took masculine fashion to a new level. The evening came to a close with an exclusive cotton collection by Rina Dhaka.
