As Monday, June 7th grows near, anticipation mounts as the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards will announce the 2010 winners of the most prestigious honors in the fashion industry, Womenswear Designer of the Year and Menswear Designer of the Year.  The ceremony and renowned gala will take place at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in the heart of New York City.  The night, as always, will promise to be one of great allure, charm, and unbridled excitement as this most thrilling event unfolds.

The Womenswear Designer of the Year nominees are Alexander Wang (recognized for his adventurous innovation), Marc Jacobs (acknowledged for his futuristic modernism), and Donna Karan (honored for her timelessness, elegance, and grace in designing for the female form).  The Menswear Designer of the Year nominees are Michael Bastian, Tom Ford, and Marcus Wainwright & David Neville for Rag & Bone.

The year’s nominees are chosen by retailers, editors, and fellow fashion designers based on the level of talent, dedication, and influence shown by the individual through their sustaining appeal in the eye of fashion.  The designer must have consistently shown collections that were deeply inspirational and exquisitely crafted and designed.  The honor also takes into consideration the less seasoned of the group;  those fearless “newbies” that refuse to be ignored with their astoundingly high level of industry promise.

The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award this year will go to Michael Kors for his enduring and influential presence in the world of design, fashion, and lifestyle.  The Special Tribute Award will honor the late designer Alexander McQueen, in remembrance of his life, extraordinary vision, and eternal impact.
