Vlada Dzyuba, 14, on a three-month contract to fulfil her dream to become a supermodel, died in China from exhaustion.

01

Vlada is reported to have attended a 13-hour jewellery modelling shoot before collapsing. She was paid merely£6.30 a day after paying her air fares, hotels and foodwith no medical insurance.

However, Chinese modelling agency ESEE Model Management, involved in her latest trip has denied overworking her – but new facts have emerged that raise concern over the working conditions of a girl who was not accompanied by her mother and the length of her working hours.

01Moët Hennessy, the Naked Heart Foundation and amfAR, hosted the fabulous fund fair, Halloween Edition, NYC’s newest, scariest and hottest Halloween extravaganza. This was a fabulous fun-filled frightful carnival complete with whimsical stalls, games, amusements, luxury prizes, celebrity hosts, cocktails, champagne and delectable treats.

VeuveClicquot treated guests to glasses of Yellow Label champagne throughout the evening. In keeping with the theme, a custom-made bar featured “VeuveClicquot yellow” balloons accented with spiders and crows. At the VeuveClicquot game, guests tested their skills at “Hook-a-Spider”—the VeuveClicquot version of “Hook-a-Duck.” Players attempted to hook floating spiders which corresponded to special champagne prizes—a glass of VeuveClicquot Rosé, Vintage 2008 or La Grande Dame.

Dali & Schiaparelli – presented in collaboration by The Dali Museum and Schiaparelli Paris –feature haute couture gowns and accessories, jewelry, paintings, drawings, objects and photos, as well as new designs by Bertrand Guyon for Maison Schiaparelli.

The House of Schiaparelli is having its 90th anniversary this year; this exhibition celebrates the unique bond between fashion and art that Elsa Schiaparelli pioneered. This will be the first exhibition dedicated to the creative relationship and works of Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dali – friends and collaborators that set Paris and the world ablaze with their ground-breaking visions.

01

Elsa Schiaparelli was regarded as the most prominent figure in fashion between the two World Wars. Her designs deliberately subverted traditional notions of women’s roles and beauty, embracing and exaggerating the transgressive nature of fashion. Schiaparelli explored bold Surrealistic themes in her designs, heavily influenced by artists, especially Dali, with whom she often collaborated. The vibrant colors, experimental fabrics and elegant handmade decorations set her apart from other designers of the 1920s and 1930s. Some of the most notable clients for Schiaparelli’s haute couture designs included the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson; heiress Daisy Fellowes; and actresses Mae West and Marlene Dietrich.

01

Schiaparelli wrote that she “invented” her dresses, and the designs were known for their elegant and daring aesthetic combined with exquisite craftsmanship – a marriage of new ideas with traditional craft. Her designs were like the paintings of Dali in that they combined renaissance precision with wild imagination and dreamlike visions. Their fashion and art both delighted and shocked the senses and that approach was a trademark of their collaborations; their works embodied a sense of freedom and possibility that enlivened popular culture during a tumultuous time.

Colette, closes its doors on Dec. 20, and the French boutique collaborates, this time with Karl Lagerfeld — who will collaborate with musician Pharrell Williams on an Adidas Hu NMD sneaker.
