Desigual unveiled its Spring/Summer 2018 show at New York Fashion Week. It marked Jean-Paul Goude’s first step as Artistic Director of the brand. Goude was tasked with creating a presentation that would bring both bold novelty and unique appeal to complement Desigual’s long-established DNA, which celebrates optimism and individuality.

Artistically Directed by Jean-Paul Goude, it presented a collection Inspired by Jungles Both Literal and Metaphorical—Highlighting Diversity, Optimism, Vitality and Individuality, values that have remained essential to Desigual’s core since its inception. Each model represented a singular character from a different group, with makeup and hairstyles that further pushed the boundaries of imagination. It was an “unexpected trip.”

The women’s fashion Spring/Summer 2018 collection was inspired by a voyage through different types of jungles; exotic, psychedelic, and more. It blended cross-cultural references in a panoply of color and creativity, optimism and singularity and non-conformity and vitality: the silhouettes were casual but textured, including everything from raffia to polka-dots, and there was an emphasis on looseness and pattern.

Pieces included color-blocked knit sweaters, interweaving mesh and marine striping; elsewhere, kimono and pajama volumes were cut with fluid fabrics. Jackets—on the shorter side, in leather or denim—were complemented by golden accent jewelry, while bohemian skirts and dresses were treated with trippy geometric prints. Tahitian flowers, palm groves and even a Mickey Mouse print were also in the mix.

Two of the biggest fashion groups Kering and LVMH will stop hiring excessively thin models on catwalks worldwide. The two groups, whose fashion labels include Christian Dior, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, said they had signed a charter for “the well-being of models”. The charter also forbids the hiring of girls under the age of 16 to pose as adult models for shows or shoots, will be effective for coming up fashion week in Paris.

France in 2015 passed legislation outlawing ultra-thin models from working in the country’s fashion industry. Fashion agencies face fines of up to €75,000 or imprisonment of up to six months if they breach the law.

Kering and LVMH said their charter will go further, adding that all their fashion brands commit to banning models below size 34 for women and size 44 for men in French measurements from their casting requirements.Size 32 in France corresponds to XXS or size 6 in Britain, and size 0 in the United States.

However, fashion industry insiders have long said that clothes hang and drape better on tall, androgynous women, while western cultures often associate thinness with wealth, youth and desirability.

The leading commercial fashion trade show Momad Metropolis, on the Iberian Peninsula which brought together the latest designs from over 700 well-known fashion and accessories brands ended its September 17 edition with more than 13,000 visitors, attracted a higher quality of professional showing a greater intention to purchase.

In addition, he also pointed out that MOMAD Metrópolis will maintain its commitment to Sustainable Fashion and the creation of a differentiated space for Men’s Fashion as a lifestyle, and points out that the Fair is working on a digitalisation project to help stores with this process”.
