Day 2:

Kicking off day two of Milan Fashion Week was Max Mara with an homage to summer in the city. The highlight of the day being legendary supermodel Cindy Crawford’sdaughter Kaia Gerber stormed the runway for Moschino and Prada shows.

Coming back to Max Mara, the brand referenced the collection to smart cosmopolitans seeking out shady patios and hidden gardens for sun dappled working lunches and well-earned cocktails. The house’s colours of the season are lilac, white, black and the requisite camel (of course) – as well as pretty spriggy floral prints in shades of purple and pink, grey pinstripes, and a Max Mara monogram that matched the carpet on the catwalk.

Gucci Spring Summer 2018 Unified Fashion Show at the Gucci Hub in Milan, officially opened Milan Fashion Week.

01

The set design conceived by Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s first reference came from an ancient map, which represents the Sabine Hills. This acted as the guideline for the shows’ foundations: the layout, the captions and the order of the locations depicted in writings on the floor.

Creation is a poetic act. It’s an eruptive process emerging from a magmatic core inhabited by urgencies, ghosts and desires. A whirl in which the stream of being thickens to deliver fresh meanings. An explosion in which vital strengths, once trapped, are finally released, said the show notes.

01

The collection embodies this exercise of resistance. Each garment vibrates with an intellectual tension that resists homologation. To this end, models strewed the runway in logo bomber jackets, printed trouser suits, pyjamas, snake motifs, leopard print and thousands of sequins giving distinctly eighties feel, with flicked hairstyles, exaggerated shoulder pads, bum bags and even – shock horror – a shell suit.

01

Menswear offered tiny short shorts paired with ties and blazers, deliberately creased tailoring, and a standout yellow checked suit. Accessories came in the form of crystal encrusted sunglasses and Stormtrooper-esque skull caps, as well as tiaras worn as necklaces and glittery hair slides for the boys.

In this frame, Gucci offers a phenomenology of the dissenting spirit. A map of signs to learn to poetically live the world, going beyond its contingency and standardizing monotony.

01

In a world where Italian Futurism meets tropical travel, the FENDI Spring/Summer 2018 Collection emerges in a swirl of Caribbean color and flavour, inspired by the artwork “Compenetrazioneincandescente, n. 4” (1912/1913) of the Italian artist Giacomo Balla, one of the most important representative of the Futurism movement.

Shades of ocean blue wash against seafoam green, coral pink and sand, as the silhouette drapes off the shoulder, nips at the waist and blooms into full skirts. In a graphic play of diaphanous layers, the symmetry of stripes and checkerboard patterns is seen throughout: bowling shirts become organza blouses, and rugby polos or cable knits warp over candy striped knickers and bras.

01

Denim trench coats and cool poplin tops reveal shoulders and scrunch at the hip, as striped silk denim and pinstriped cotton skirts hug the waist high. Nude sequin separates shimmer as moments of craft unfurl in delicate fern leaf broderieanglaise, beaded organza philodendron and palm leaves, floral leather marquetry and fur floating on silk chiffon. On foot, pointed mesh flats and pumps come adorned with tartan beading, surf straps and a rattan heel, whilst stocking boots collage the double F logo with Futurist florals.

The Spring/Summer 2018 marks the first appearance on the catwalk of the Mon Trésor bag, a mini bucket presented in luxurious exotic leather festooned with metallic pearls, and the new Runaway tote in transparent tartan mesh with rounded rattan handles. The Kan I F bag returns trimmed in raffia fringes and worn with leafy suede Strap You handles.

Monkey, banana and Bao-bug logo charms accent the Collection’s tropical feel.
