Christian Dior will open a retrospective in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the haute couture house. Entitled, Christian Dior, couturier du rêve, the six-month-long exhibition opens on July 7 and will feature designs by Dior’s successors, to the current Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The successors: Yves Saint Laurent’s sophistication will be represented by a couture trapeze dress from his spring-summer 1958 collection for house; Gianfranco Ferré’s architectural style by a long georgette dress finished with pilaster shoulders; the fantasy of John Galliano with a grand, embroidered velvet cape inspired by the Ballet Russes; Raf Simons street modernism with a duchess satin cocktail in a print by Sterling Ruby; and Chiuri’s feminism with fringed party frocks done with raffia embroidery.

Burberry took the audience by surprise during their haute couture-esque capes in February fashion show in London.

Only to realise, that it was first displayed at the “Henry Moore: Inspiration & Process” exhibition at London’s Makers House. Followed by “Cape Reimagined” exhibition on a globe-trotting tour to cities including Milan, Shanghai, Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, which reach Dubai this May at Concrete, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz.

Each cape has been handmade using unique constructions and referencing elements from the Burberry archive. The capes, all individually named, are available for special order.

The Louis Vuitton Cruise show 2018, will take place at the Miho Museum Bridge in Kyoto, Japan. The iconic location was conceptualised by the Louvre’s architect I.M. Pei twenty years ago and houses over 2000 artworks.

Speaking about the museum, Nicolas Ghesquière said: “The place inspired me right away. After the desert and Palm Springs, the ocean and Rio, I wanted to introduce people to another landscape, to immerse them in a sea of green. For our 2018 Cruise fashion show we are transported into a tangled web of nature, geographical greatness and a unique architectural vision.”

Design: Raunaq
Concept note: ‘Raunaq’ is a collection of 5 ensembles celebrating bright colors in the union of two souls. It is made from waste material (kataran) and developed by using various techniques into interesting surfaces which are usable and wearable. It is my endeavour to be as creative as I can and make best out of waste material.
Though behind the project- My idea was to use waste fabric (kataran) collected from various tailors in my neighbourhood and developing them into interesting surfaces. As wedding dresses these days are exorbitantly priced, I chose kataran to make my garment look more interesting, unique and beautiful. My main aim was to make best use of the waste material available without spending a lot on the beautification of the garment.

Avneet Bansal
Design: Smart garment design
Concept Note: Infusion (the collection) draws inspiration from the growing influence of technology in our everyday life. The collection conceptualizes a world where technology is integrated into fashion resulting in responsive garments. The garments are interlined with a smart memory fibres/memory alloys which are temperature – responsive and remember different shapes at different temperatures. Apt for people who live out of suitcases and travel extensively to hot and cold destinations and want to travel light, these garments stay deflated when at a hot place and inflate lightly in cold temperatures.
A prototype is also being developed where the smart fibre will be woven in the fabric itself.

Tokyo, April 2017 – FENDI announced the opening of FENDI GINZA, a new flagship boutique infused with the latest global concept, inside GINZA SIX (Location: Ginza 6-chome, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).

Renowned for the historically acclaimed craftsmanship of its skilled artisans and extraordinary creativity, the Maison’s core values and artistic passion will have unlimited exposure in this new boutique, one of the largest of its kind in Japan. Spread across four floors – one basement floor and three above ground floors – the boutique will showcase both Men’s and Women’s Collections, ranging from high-end furs, ready-to- wear items and leather goods to shoes and playful accessories.

The underlying concept at FENDI GINZA is Rome, the city where the Maison was founded more than 90 years ago and that still today never ceases to inspire the Maison. Inside the boutique, signs of the Eternal City of FENDI’s roots are visible at every corner like the historical monument Palazzo dellaCiviltàItaliana housing since 2015 the Maison’s headquarters and the brand’s ‘present’.

The impressive facade recalls the iconic arches of the Palazzo dellaCiviltàItaliana and is also emotionally connected to Japan’s traditional ‘Noren’. Once inside, one sees an expansive boutique space filled with
welcoming warmth and a luxury world inviting visitors. The exhibited designs and art pieces have been perfected down to minute details, befitting FENDI’s new flagship store.

This new boutique will showcase a large artistic object, Fur Tree, created by Japanese flower artist, Azuma Makoto, whom FENDI has been collaborating with for the last two years. He is active both in Japan and abroad. Mr. Azuma and FENDI share a spirit of experimentation through trial and error that is pursued from a unique viewpoint.
