In the times of pre-showcasing, there comes Milano Moda Pre-collections – a preview of designer collections that will be presented at upcoming Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013.

The ninth edition of the event, running through the month of June has been organized by the National Chamber of Italian Fashionand receives the endorsement of prestigious names of Italian fashion showcasing their official collection before the fashion week in their respective showrooms.

The concept of pre-collections, born about ten years ago, holds significance from an economic standpoint and has assumed primary importance in recent years as about two-thirds of the total turnover of fashion is derived from them.

Confiding in the designer who got her the Best Dressed Female Star award at Toronto Film Festival 2005, Lisa Ray is getting hitched to Jason Dehni in Napa Valley California this October, and will wear the wedding gown designed by Wendell Rodricks.

As of now, Lisa and Wendell are in discussions to make the dress that will bring out the elegance, beauty and happy emotion of the wedding. About her dream dress Lisa says, “No frills. No bows. I want a dress I can dance in.”

While Wendell says, “I want to dress Lisa in radiance because that’s how her sparkling personality is. Top on the agenda for the dress is to ensure that it is comfortable. The rest will follow. I know Lisa’s style, body and personality. We share a special friendship that goes back two decades. I am sure she will make a perfect bride on her big day.”

The much sought after Rolex Awards for Enterprise (RAE), a global philanthropic initiative has chosen New Delhi as the venue for its upcoming edition, to be held in November, 2012.

The awards created to recognize the vision and achievement of individuals who have made world a better place to live will honor five winners this year, for their innovations in science and health, exploration and discovery, the environment, cultural heritage, and applied technology.

The winners will be judged by a distinguished jury comprising of heavyweights from different backgrounds, including MahrukhTarapor,SubramaniamRamadorai andGururajDeshpande, from India.

Established in 1976 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Rolex Oyster Chronometer, the world’s first waterproof watch, the Rolex Awards has a strong connect with India like in 2006 it recognized ChandaShroff’s 2006 project to revive the craft of Kutchiembroidery in Gujarat, benefitting more than 20,000 women of all castes from 120 villages across Kutch. 

Commenting on the Rolex Awards coming to India for the first time, Rebecca Irvin, Head of Philanthropy at Rolex, said: “We believe India is a thought-leader in innovation and enterprise; a concept that is very well embraced and understood in the country. Over the years, of the more than 100 projects that have been supported by the Awards for Enterprise, we have had outstanding examples from India, echoing the vibrant character of the population. By holding the Awards ceremony in Delhi this year, we are recognizing the spirit of enterprise that prevails. In 2012, India had the second highest number of entries, and, in the future, we expect to reach out to many more deserving individuals whose projects are helping to improve the lives of those around them.”

 

Marque 2012Lately, Le’Mark Institute of Art presented Marque 2012 – a fashion and jewellery show in Mumbai to mark its decade in the field of fashion.

The theme ‘India Inspires’ brought to the fore the colors and flavors of India as showcased in the 18 sequenced fashion show with awards given away by
Designers Amy Billimoria, Manish Ranjan and Avesh Dadlani. The vibrantly colorful evening was choreographed by ShakirShaikh bringing in the element of spunk.

The interesting futuristic yet realistic collections included Aamchi Mumbai, Jannat, Queens, Dark Knight, Metro Town and JalPari amongst others.

The Italian luxury fashion house Gucci launches its sustainable soles – a special edition of eco-friendly women’s and men’s shoes designed by Creative Director Frida Gianni.

A part of the Pre-Fall 2012 collection, the sustainable soles include the Marola Green ballerinas for women and the California Green sneakers for men, both realized in bio-plastic – a biodegradable material in compost used as an alternative to petrochemical plastic.

The Marola Green flat ballerina is characterized by cut out details and the GG logo motif, and is available in the polished tones of blush, taupe and black. While the California Green sneakers combine the bio-rubber soles with the upper part in genuine vegetable tanned black calfskin, biologically certified strings and rhodium-plated metal details. Additionally, the green Gucci logo has been designed on a recycled polyester label.

The Sustainable Soles will be available at selected Gucci stores worldwide and on gucci.com from the end of June 2012.

Highlights of RFW 2012The recently concluded Rajasthan Fashion Week 2012 came up as a glitz affair bringing to the fore some interesting designs with the filmy flavour of Bollywood and a touch of the opulence of royalty.

The 3-day extravaganza in Jaipur was opened by actor Vivek Oberoi by lighting the lamp to give way to six designers with their different collections from across the India. The presence of North-East was marked by Deniel from Meghalaya who presented ryndia, a type of fabric which is chemical free and effortless to wear. The designers like Lina Tipnis, Rohit Verma, Kawaljit Singh and Kirti Rathore belted out their collections, one after another, focusing on ethnic wear featuring Indian motifs and artistry. The highlight of the day was a physically challenged foreign model Alina appearing on the ramp with Abhimanyu Singh.

The day 2 with a lineup of some of the recognized names of Indian fashion was opened by designer Poonam Patel and Swati Modo who showcased an Indo-Western collection featuring dresses, tunics, kurtas and saris. The day also saw designer Pam Mehta presenting her floral fiesta, a collection where relaxed couture came to life. The vibrant collection had zari, resham and Swarovski work on pre-draped saris and sari gowns. Finally, it was the designer duo Rohit & Abhishek who concluded the day with their ‘Dance of Life’ collection featuring bundhgalas, achkans, breeches, harem pants and cowls for men while for women there were jackets, long skirts and Jodhpurs.

The final day of the fashion week had few interesting designs on showcasing like the one by Amit Talwar who kept the look ethnic and portrayed the Pakeeza’s inner beauty of women. On the other hand, Geetanjali Rawat with a special taste for the Western outfits presented her floral collection highlighting base colors like black and red. However, the cynosure of the day was Julia Bruchwitz who came up with a range of exotic gowns and colorful kaftans, fusing Western silhouettes with unique embroidery elements of East. On final notes, the day was wrapped up by Vikram Phadnis who showcased his feminine range of Indian ethnic wear in hues of beige and gold with a tinge of floral prints.

Relaunch of Christian LacroixAfter going bankrupt in 2009 Christian Lacroix shut its operations, to only return back in 2012 with a boutique in Paris soon.

The label which was launched in 1987 had gone bankrupt in 2009 and operated as a licensing operation, selling accessories, menswear and home ware. Meanwhile, the designer breaking all ties with his eponymous label started designing under the name of ‘Monsieur C.Lacroix’.

Now, Christian Lacroix is making a comeback and will be opening a store on June 1 at Place Saint Sulpice in Paris. The boutique will retail design objects handpicked by the label’s Creative Director SachaWalckhoff, and a selection of vintage Lacroix pieces.

Paris to Launch a FragranceThe teenybopper celebrity with few musical renditions on her name and a growing fashion empire, Paris Hilton is all set to launch her newest fragrance, Dazzle.

The fifteenth in the line, the fragrance will hit the shelves this summer, and will see the empire of the diva only growing, as the fragrance is most likely to add $20 million to $25million in her kitty.

The fragrance which is the expression of the personality of Paris will floor sending jitters to Kim Kardashain, the prime competition of the star.

The popular Gen Next category in its 7th year now, announced the fourteenth batch of promising young designers for its next edition, receiving around 250 designer applications across categories from 27 cities across the country along with international applicants from Colombo, Dubai, Dhaka, Ontario, Sydney, Hong Kong and Texas.
