Designer Niki Mahajan will be showcasing the range of ensembles highlighting the new breed of  emerging female forms who looks from all angles with maturity, wisdom and heritage taking her inspiration from ‘The modern day Maharani’ at Autumn Winter 2011 edition of WIFW.

The entire collection boasts of mixing creativity with responsibility by adopting Sustainable techniques to create the ensembles.  A plethora of diverse fabric mediums bits and pieces of embroideries, delicate laces, ends of thread work pieces, a multitude of fine woven textiles, a vast collection of innumerable print have been picked up and then proceeded to bring everything together to create this conceptual collection.

Colors are playing a powerful role in her collection with strong, rich saturation in essential colors, which are warm and positive.  There is a sense of glow from fabrics and also from the sheen of metallic finishes. Fabrics like rich velvets, two toned silks, luxurious laces, the transparent organza, chiffons, and georgettes render a rich feel to the collection.

With special focus to beaten metal work, “mokaish” a heritage technique evolving from Lucknow, the embroidery is diverse. Whereas accessories like semi precious stones, unusual stones and bones, keeping everything natural, have been wielded.

The designer Joy Mitra has delved into the archives of RK Narayan’s ‘Malgudi Days’ for his collection at WIFW A/W 2011.

Sheer magic of Malgudi Days which Joy has tried to translate in his latest collection is a fusion of Indian sarees, anarkalis and long jackets. Colors used mostly are blacks and browns with some indigos and maroons. Occasional sap greens play a hide and seek in the collection. Lot of textures, hand embroidery and prints has been used to create the look. Fabrics start from wool to corduroys to silk to cottons, adding to the magic and grandeur of the collection.

Renowned for her ethnic ensembles with a couture bend, Jaya Rathore for the first time, will be showcasing her range of luxury pret, Mantilla at WIFW A/W 2011.

Taking her inspiration from handcrafted Spanish lace and convent embroideries, Jaya revisits the traditions of needle and frame sewing by women in families and convents. The cross-stitch forms the staple of her motifs. Thicker thread works on finer fabrics create the effect of a lace with more body than spider web-fine Chantilly. Net, chiffon and georgette create flow, while wool-twill, velvet and heavier silks lend a dressed up feel of winter.

The limited color board comprises of deep rich maroon, midnight blue, magenta, mustard, nude and grey. Tonal and contrast texturing ‘off ‘combination and strong blocking create an unusual color play within the collection.

Heavily Spanish influenced collection reinterprets the flamenco ruffles, matador boleros, scalloped edgings, fringed scarves and capes into contemporary wearable range of women’s wear.

For WIFW A/W 2011, designer Ritu Kumar presents ‘Label’, a deep and vibrant collection taking its inspiration from a bygone romance of silk route explorers in the early 19th century.

The entire collection revolves around the adventure and mystery immortalized in characters that traveled the land looking for fortune. The textiles and traditions have been contemporized in shape and technique to offer a modern interpretation of the theme.

Fabrics developed for the collection include several jacquards in both traditional and fresh designs. These include wool, silk blends and jersey. The collection showcases some one-of-a-kind pieces that are the beginning of a revival project in Kanjivaram. Other noticeable textiles include hand woven silks from Bengal.

The shapes also draw from the era with touches of masculine trimmings and structure. Accompanying these are wispy feminine shapes with a touch of vintage glamour. The styling is a patchwork of ideas, textures and colors. The hues tend toward blacks, burgundy’s, rusts and khaki browns.

The designer Sonia Jetleey has come out with a sneak peek into ‘Pot-Pourri’ of her ideas and sensibilities lending a mixed look to the collection for WIFW A/W 2011.

There is an extraordinary energy in the colour palette as hues like Calypso Cordial, Porcelain blue, Apple Green, Gothic Grape, Chilli Pepper, Molten Lava, Fuscia Red, Beeswax Yellow, Seaport, Pewter Greasy all meshed with the collection’s classy silhouettes, lending the real sophistication and polish. Moreover, baroque styling motifs in printing techniques like discharge, engineered shibori (tie and dye technique) and hand-crafted embroidery techniques render a unique appeal to the ensembles.

Quilted Jackets worn with Jodhpur pants, asymmetric skirts, slim pants, shift dresses, long skirts worn with stylized tops, Tunics, Resort Kaftans and sarees infuse diversity in the collection.
