Though an unusual name, ‘The Charcoal Project’ is a world of opulence. Adding wings to her dream, Sussanne Roshan has put together a two level store of home décor, artefacts and upholstery that is simply awe inspiring. The luxury and the magnificence of each creation is so unique, that the entire feel of the place is magical.

Apart from designing a vast majority of products that are on display, Sussanne has also sourced eclectic pieces with her aesthetic sense. Sharing her vision to have a space that offers out of the box creations, popular designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and international designer Martin have also created niche objects for ‘The Charcoal Project’.

While Sussanne has captured the classy Renaissance beauty in her home décor products like plush bedding finery, grandfather wall clocks, luxurious sofa sets, huge mirrors with ornamental frames, scented candles, beautiful lampshades, Sandeep and Abu have invoked the larger than like, Maharaja’s style in their royal chairs with high back rest, cushions with zari work and Indian motifs, huge metallic treasure chests, interesting glass works and animal replicas. Martin on the other hand pumps up the contemporary quotient of the entire spread with vintage car show pieces, fun tables like the 3D versions of words such as ‘SEXY’ and ‘LOVE’ in shinning black metal, furry carpets, cozy cushions, interesting lampshades and so on.

There are antique show pieces distributed all across the store like huge books, giant size metallic gorillas, flying eagles, interesting sculptures, looming chandeliers, wall fountain and so on that adds on to the subtle old world charm. There is also a small cafeteria at the basement of the store that has cute orange, white and red kettles grouped together and hung from the ceiling to complete the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ feel.
The guests who came for the inauguration of the store included Sussanne’s mom Zarine Khan, hubby Hrithik Roshan, their two sons, father-in-law Rakesh Roshan, designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, international designer Martin, yester year’s star Jitendra, the young heart-throb Shahid Kapoor and more.

Floating clouds of colorful fur, elusive transparency, masculine accents, glimpses of patent leather for a lady of mystery and irony. The collection is a stylish provocation of a daring colour palette, eyes hidden by a wide-brimmed hat, with feathers, recalling an eccentric muse.

For the Autumn Winter 2011-2012 season, the Gucci woman dresses with a cinematic allure and a strong seductive power. Entrancing like a performance by Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine. Intriguing like archive images of Anjelica Huston photographed by Bob Richardson.“This is a contemporary female dandy who fuses glamour and seduction using the iconic codes of the House. She is a polished woman with a decisive personality, who is attentive to detail and willing to dare," commented Frida Giannini.

Sartorial details and dramatized Seventies proportions are influenced by a vision of the Forties. The line drops down to the knee and flares. Skin on skin, the chemisier and the strapless dress in nappa, are in whimsical colors. Teal, rust, emerald green, cherry, lilac, lime, highlighted by the artisanal fur treatments on a wild-deluxe caban, collars, sleeves, basques. The range is complemented by abstract and opulent floral sculptures realized with organza petals, chiffon, and habotai.

Beauty and awe ruled the evening as Kolkata’s glitterati came together to witness the biggest and the solitary leather products fashion show by Indian Leather Products Association (ILPA) in association with Asian Leathers hosted at The ITC Kolkata.

The models sashayed the ramp with their implausible looks sporting the outfits designed by Komal Sood, Pooja Doshi & Jaya Misra. Leather products that were showcased at the event included- ladies bags, handbags, clutches, hobo handbags, unisex bags, men’s bags, briefcases, portfolios, holdalls (travel bags) and belts. Prestigious export units like Shivmani Export1s Pvt. Ltd., D2 International, Lexus Exports, Rene, Trio Trend Pvt. Ltd., Crescent Export Syndicate, Metropoli Fashions (P) Ltd., ASG Leather Private Limited, Om Leather Art deco Pvt. Ltd. & Wallets plus displayed their exclusive product range on the ramp where elite models sported these products with flair.

A three member panel, which included the designer Abhishek Datta, Antara Kumar, Executive Director (Technical), ILPA Infrastructure Development Foundation & Shri Nari Kalwani, Managing Director, Asian Leathers Ltd., judged the episodes presented at the Show and declared the winner of the Asian Leather Trophy for the best sequence.

The show was conceptualized and maneuvered by the industry’s renowned fashion choreographer Lubna Adams who has to her credit many successful events like-India Fashion Weeks, IIFA Dubai 2006, IIFA Bangkok 2008, Miss World Fashion Show Seychelles 1996 & 1997, Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Neeta Lulla, Vikram Phadnis, and Madhur Bhandarkar’s film ‘FASHION’ to name a few.

Designer Kapil and Monika have taken the next step above as they will be debuting at the Lakme Fashion Week ’11 in Mumbai this year.

The collection palette travels through beige and mint, warms to caramel and gets richer into terracotta and claret and finally deepens into purple and navy. The duos explore the dressy day wear category. Lightly embellished separates are floaty yet lady like, the pieces are versatile enough to be worn as day/resort attire, but providing the scope for a more dressed up look, depending on occasion.

Stepping outside their couture sensibilities, Kapil and Monika are going to design the pret options while retaining their luxurious touch. Soft structure fluid fabrics are languid yet controlled. The overall effect is clean, feminine, yet tailored. Placement embellishments in tonal materials are easy on the eye. A hint of shine adds a sparkle to every outfit, without being jarring, whether in daylight or in the evening.
