Gucci unveiled its autumn/winter advertising campaign exclusively featuring model Raquel Zimmerman, shot alongside her male counterpart Nicola Jovanovic. Shot in Marrakech by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the images evoke the same sense of extreme luxury and sleek glamour found in this season’s collections. The campaign will roll out worldwide in September both in print and online magazines.

Amidst heavy rain and wind, the much anticipated Life Ball in Vienna carried on with a force all its own last Saturday, July 17th.  Stars, talent, celebrities, models, fashion designers, philanthropists, and politicians swarmed Vienna City Hall on City Hall Square to raise awareness and join in the global fight against HIV/AIDS.  Guests spent the evening in the Burgtheater with the Red Ribbon Cotillion and moved later into the Parliament for the amfAR gala.  The Ball, organized by AIDS Life (founded in 1992 by Gery Keszler and Torgom Petrosian), is the most famed humanitarian event in Europe, providing hope for millions around the world with HIV or AIDS.  The Life Ball came exactly one day prior to the XVIII International AIDS Conference this year, marking its 18th year.

The theme, “Sow the Seeds of Solidarity, The Circle of Life” was meant to represent Mother Earth and our continued need for harmony, unity, and a spirit of comradeship in the effort to end the spread of AIDS.

The Ball, known for its grandiosity, opulence, and extravagant decor, would be nothing if not for the stream of brilliantly (and most bravely) dressed guests.  Leigh Lezark, President Bill Clinton, Patti LaBelle , Whoopi Goldberg, Katy Perry, Pamela Anderson, Roisin Murphy, Eva Longoria, and  Estée Lauder group president John Demsey, were only a few of the famous names who participated in the festivities.  Fashion designers Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa, and Kenneth Cole led the annual runway show with supermodel Naomi Campbell, clad in a bustling yellow frock and surrounded by an ensemble of handsomely dressed toy soldiers.

The night carried on, full of live performances, speeches, shows, and of course, dancing.  The Ukrainian NGO and its founder Sergey Kostin were the 2010 honorees of the Crystal of Hope award at the end of the evening in recognition of their remarkable work in helping homeless, HIV positive children in Odessa, Ukraine.

When it comes to "la dolce vita", no one delivers Italian style better than Dolce & Gabbana. The eponymous designers have created one of the world’s most distinctive fashion houses, adding their style and flair to catwalks and dressing A-list celebrities. But for fashion’s golden duo, anniversaries are not that important.

"We don’t like to think a lot about the past, we don’t turn our head to look behind," Stefano Gabbana. "I want to look forward, to dream forward. If you look too much behind, you die." The two designers were romantically involved until 2005. After the break-up they continued working together. "Everyone confuses love with sex, but they are two different worlds," Domenico Dolce. "A sexual relationship might end, but love never ends." Dolce and Gabbana revealed about their first steps in fashion, their fights and their often controversial campaigns.

How was it at the beginning when you started working together?
Domenico Dolce: We produced the first womenswear Dolce & Gabbana show alone. We organised it in one small studio, we didn’t have money to pay the models so we asked all our friends to come. We didn’t have money for shoes and bags so all the people used their personal accessories. For the curtain we attached the sheet I had bought for my house, but it was too short and beneath it you could see people’s feet. And this is the way Dolce & Gabbana started. For me, this is one of the best times of my life.

In your work, you’re designing clothes, but do you want to contribute more?
DD: When people connect with Dolce & Gabbana clothes I would like them to understand my honesty, my life, my love, my style, my point of view, not just my clothes — that’s my dream. I think when people buy my clothes they don’t just buy a trouser or a shirt; people buy one mood, one sense of life, for me this is very important.

If it’s only about clothes would you get bored?
Stefano Gabbana: Our fashion for us it’s an expression; first of all of life, I put all of myself in my fashion. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, but this is a mirror, an expression about Domenico and Stefano. It’s not just a profession; it’s a person with a lot of personality.

What would you say to someone who says "it’s just clothes"?
DD: For you it’s just clothes, for me it’s not. When we sketch, the clothes are one "anima", one sentiment. When I touch the clothes I touch with love.

Fashion comes and goes.
SG: Fashion is ok for five days, one minute, six months, but style is for the rest of the life. This is what we need, we love, we work around this, this is why we started working.

How would you like to be remembered?
DD: It’s a big dream — I would like people to remember Dolce and Gabbana as an Italian, passionate, honest and "tailored" brand. Not just for the clothes, but for the style and the image. And maybe people would remember that these two guys — one with no hair and one tall — worked for this label.

Is it always happy working together?
DD: No, we have a lot of fights when we work together, because we both have strong characters. So, if I love one style I defend my idea, Stefano defends his and then we compromise because if we don’t, then it’s like it is my collection or Stefano’s collection. Altogether we find a nice balance, that’s important.

SG: It depends on the time, maybe one day Domenico feels red because he saw a movie or found a friend in a restaurant with a beautiful red, and maybe in the same day I feel white. The fight starts like this because I try to convince him to make it white and he tries and convince me to make it red. And maybe in the end we do it black. We have success.

Does being two help?
SG: For us yes, because we were two from the beginning. I cannot imagine my job without Domenico, I do it without him but I need him all the time and he needs me. We have to talk about everything, and maybe because we were born like this it’s impossible to think of this alone.

Do you like giving interviews?
DD: No, I prefer my clothes, I work for my clothes. I don’t care about Domenico Dolce, I work for Dolce & Gabbana. I like people to remember my label, not my face. I prefer people to remember tomorrow the big movie, the big history of Dolce and Gabbana. I’m one actor of this movie.

Jewellery Designer Poonam Soni creates buzz by accepting an invitation to participate in an auction organized by Eco Art, a charitable institution for ecological welfare supported by Prince Albert II of Monaco. Her jewellery piece is stated to travel through a host of international destinations starting at Monte Carlo on 29th July 2010 and ending with a grand auction in Abu Dhabi on 13th November 2010.

This auction will be conducted by the Chairman Michael I. Sovern of the acclaimed auction-house Sotheby’s, in a grand ceremony as part of the festivities of the Grand Prix. Some of the luminaries joining Ms. Soni at this mega-event will include Prince Albert II of Monaco and many high-ranking Sheikhs of the UAE.

Poonam Soni’s creation for the auction is a jewellery piece titled “Itai Doshin”, based on the Buddhist philosophy which means "Many in body, one in mind". It is a dual purpose ornament inspired by the Saker Falcon that can be used as either a brooch or a lariat. Characteristics of the Poonam Soni style, the multi dimensional design are an amalgamation of various mediums.

The piece is adorned with diamonds of the highest quality, champagne coloured ovals in rounds and bagets. Fancy shaped, golf cut white diamonds on the wings of the bird and uneven shaped large white diamonds are used for the flowers and drops from the wings. The bird’s stomach is decorated in a traditional form of Mogul art, fusing 23 ct. gold on glass while the face of the bird is hand-painted. However, it is the miniature rose holding the tiny green painting on plexiglass, below the bird, that exudes the environmental vibe. The tail of the bird is movable inducing the visual illusion of flight. A small beetle, placed on the neck, attached to the piece, studded with champagne diamonds and red rubies carries the Poonam Soni signature on its back.

It was the baroquely adorned atrium of DLF Emporio which witnessed the lavish bridal extravaganza amidst the drama and celebrations by veteran Tarun Tahiliani. It was like a humongous wedding affair with floral and light effects among other object d’ art like a huge Swarvoski studded elephant and the palace set up which gravitated every ball and fancy. Umpteen mannequins dressed in typical Indian wedding ensembles gave an illusion of  groom’s men and bridal invitees to fill the colors and style in this parti-colored event.

The show which was commenced by Lisa Haydon strutting down the ramp in the off white structured saree further graduated to densely crystallized lehangas teamed with bra tops. Fusing more glitter and panache, there comes chiffon and silk draped masterpieces in beige, ivory and crème with breath taking prints and embroideries narrating stories of Indian tradition.

The menswear was high on luxe and royalty ferrying the viewers to the life and grandeur of Maharajas. Mainly concocted of finely stitched graceful sherwanis in beige and red tones, the show was high on ethnicity and opulence of Indian tradition.

After the brilliant show by J.J Valaya, proving his metal in couture, there ensued a post show party at the exclusive pan-Asian restaurant – Asia Seven which turned out to be a perfect venue as it reflected the sense of history, culture and antiquity complemented by something modern and new, which was prominent in his collection.

The likes of Aftab Shivdasani, Rohit Bal, Vineet Jain, Shaleen Jain, Anjhula Bias, Fatima Karan, Vikram Baidyanath, Rahul Dev, Dipti Gujral, Nethra Raghuraman and Vijay Arora graced the soiree over cocktails and canapé before the sumptuous buffet.

Adding to the excitement, Jazz vocalist Sonam Kalra and DJ Raghav regaled the invitees with their hip shaking music.
