The winds of fresh fragrance and an unconventional take on fashion triggered with intense passion for design weaves the fabric castle of Masaba. Having been discovered with outstanding potential early in her college by none other than fashion maverick designer Wendell Roderick himself who was her mentor, she participated at the Lakme Gen Next 2009 and since then has brought her bit of change to the fashion world. Fashionfad.in delves in chat with Masaba Gupta on all that composes and poses her fashion brigade for future.

How and when did you decide to get into fashion designing?
In my second year of college, SNDT, Mumbai I had Wendell Roderick as my mentor for my collection, and he thought my work was impressive and entrusted a lot in my talent. He was the one who asked me to participate at the Lakme Gen Next and thus started my journey as designer while I was still studying. And I still have three months of college left, so it’s been so far so good and my work has started being recognized and appreciated.

Which designer has given you inspiration or whom you look upto?
I admire different designers and for their individual take on fashion and design, my preferences also change with season to season from their collections. But my all time favorites are Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Anamika Khanna, Kalol Dutta, Nikasha, Anuj Sharma and Rimjhim Dadu.

What is the difference at LakmeFashion Week and WIFW?
I started my career with Lakme, but I always wanted to break into the Delhi market. As we perceive the Delhi market, to be a little tough splurge because of all the bling factors but WIFW is also reputed to be more business centric and have serious take on fashion I participated at the last season of WIFW A/W ’10. And it faired pretty well for me where I showcased a semi festive collection.

As for Lakme Fashion Week it has started a more focused approach towards the domestic buyers and I feel this move to be perfectly in sync with the designers’ business motives. The international buyers have not been bringing much business from the past few fashion weeks so it completely makes sense to tap and cater the domestic market to its optimum.

(She adds with a smile) Though the winter festive this season at Lakme Fashion week is going to be challenging for me as I completely denounce bling, that something I can’t associate my design intervention with, but what else could one do for bridals. So I am all set working out a route were I can amalgam lighter lehangas with my individual style and sensibility.

What inspires you most to design?
There is nothing in particular that hold on, to draw my inspirations I am a person who gets inspired from everyday, from significant to insignificant tantrums thrown at from all walks and that which has a degree of potential to stir my levels of passion. I can get sensitized while listening to a particular music or even while driving. Like some time back while I was driving I saw group of labour class women dressed blouses with multi hued patch work which formed the backbone of one of my collections.

How do you deal with design blocks?
I don’t really have design blocks because I believe only if put yourself into pressure to deliver certain number of products at the end of the day your mind would turn the switch off button. Where as for me design is an instant and free flow of ideas or inspirations and I never force my self with a schedule. So sometimes I sketch only sketch in the entire week and sometimes not even that much but still my work progresses as I then sit with my karigars to develop something entirely different with an altered approach.

Your views on the future of fashion in India….
As far as I can see Indian fashion is only about bridal wear and very few designers like Manish Arora walk out of the league to make their presence big abroad. We are stuck at a percept and satisfied with a few fashion weeks and a few boutique while there is so much more to rediscover and present and we are not branded and neither are we venturing out in a big way. Though its not absolutely essential fro everyone to go abroad, like Anita Dongre who is doing great in the domestic market itself and has been growing so unless the Indian fashion design starts expanding in a big way looking beyond the bridal market the future of fashion India is misty.

Following the successful launch of its collection of watches, Swarovski is returning to the Basel world fair and the global watch making market with Swarovski watch collection in 2010.Having already created a total of 45 models for the last collection, this season sees Swarovski increase its offering by 16 new pieces and one limited edition.

The company is strengthening its “Octea” line, which have played a considerable part in the collection’s success to date, with a number of new colour variations for 2010.

Honouring the elegant and functional styling of the original “Octea Sport” watch, the three new 2010 versions of the model offer a colourful alternative.

This year, the “Octea Sport” in orange unites dynamic colouring, timeless design and an impeccable watch mechanism. At the same time, it offers all the features that brought its predecessor worldwide acclaim.

The unidirectional rotating bezel is made entirely of faceted crystal and represents a significant technical achievement. This time it is exclusively clear crystal, with highlights provided by an eye-catching orange scale divided into minutes. Beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the luminescent hands and central second hand pass orange hand-applied indexes and Arabic numerals. The aperture for the date indicator is positioned at 3 o’clock, close to the Swan that replaces the 12. The sophisticated dial combines matt grey and sunray silver grey finishes, while the notched crown, which features a cabochon covering the Swan motif, completes the steel 39-mm case that houses the watch’s Swiss made ETA movement.

Complementing the sunray cut crystal of the bezel, six clear crystals punctuate the vibrant orange of the rubber strap at regular intervals, each of the crystal highlights is set and screwed down with the greatest craftsmanship. The faceted horns and ardillon buckle, as well as the case engraved with the Swanflower™ motif, are all hallmarks of the company and make this model unique and instantly recognisable.

The two other “Octea Sport” models – available in red and black – offer the same watchmaking finesse, with a clear crystal and red or entirely Jet Hematite crystal bezel.

Moments in Zen, expresses Blanca’s enquiring engagement with the dynamic journey of the human spirit across physical/political boundaries into personal, cross-cultural adaptations in expressions of love, play, exuberance, simplicity, peace and quietude. Her Soul Migrations series pay tribute to the profound mimetic links between her motherland India and other world cultures.

Blanca’s fascination with Japanese aesthetics blossomed as a little girl, as she was regaled by stories told to her by family that lived there. In June 2008, she finally arrived in Kyoto – beginning her sojourn through Gifu, Tokyo and Sado Island. Of her two months in Japan she writes,”everywhere I found expression of a profound sense of exacting precision, meticulousness, compassion, dedication and fine detail in each human undertaking. And yet within this absolute expression of relentless boundaries…”

Blanca’s images mingle the animistic rawness of Shinto, the elegant simplicity and tranquillity of Zen and her own playful, poignant responses to the traditional and current in Japan.

In describing her portrayal of Japan, American journalist David Kubiak writes, “Half of her drawings present emblematic statuary that has moved beyond depiction and absorbed enough folk respect to possess a life force of its own. Her other monochrome work portrays figures from highly stylized traditions – the Noh play, the Buddhist path, youth fashion fads and the exquisite geisha world.

Her powerful multihued paintings expose the fertile tension between the prim reserve of Japan’s public life and the wild abandon of individuals’ private fantasies.  Blanca’s travels with the renowned Kodo drumming troupe yielded particularly telling insights as she watched them transmute years of sweat and quiet discipline into thundering cascades of soul-quaking sound.

Seen admiring the exhibition were Ritu Kumar with husband Shashi kumar and sons Ashwin & Amrish Kumar, designers Abhishek Gupta & Nandita Basu, Gauri & Nainika karan, Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna, Nishant Peralta, Satish & Amita Gupta, Jay Bajaj, Neera Nath, Anita Wissenbach with daughter Sita, amongst others.

Estée Lauder broke new ground in skincare science with the introduction of Time Zone Line and Wrinkle Reducing Moisturizers, the first moisturizers developed to target and measurably reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and help skin to behave in a younger way. Time Zone Anti-Line/Wrinkle Eye Creme features exclusive, advanced anti-wrinkle technologies that help dramatically diminish the look of lines and wrinkles, reversing the key signs of apparent aging around the eye area for a years-younger look.

On average, skin around the eyes is 4 times thinner than skin on the rest of the face and has few oil glands, leaving this delicate area especially vulnerable to moisture loss and environmental irritants. This lower resistance to everyday stresses means that skin around the eye area tends to accumulate more cellular damage than the rest of the face which leads to a faster appearance of aging. Time Zone Anti-Line/Wrinkle Eye Creme dramatically reduces the appearance of the key visible signs of aging around the eye area with three powerful anti-wrinkle technologies: Sirtuin EX-1 Technology, a NEW concentrated Tri-Hyaluronic Complex and a NEW Biomimetic Barrier Complex.

The powerful combination of Sirtuin EX-1 Technology, a NEW concentrated Tri-Hyaluronic Complex and a NEW Biomimetic Barrier Complex pinpoints and dramatically diminishes the look of key eye area concerns to actually reverse the appearance of measured age.

Time Zone Anti-Line/Wrinkle Eye Creme has been designed with a modern, universally appealing creme texture that glides on easily without pulling or tugging.  Skin around the eyes is left feeling hydrated and silky-smooth, while subtle optics provide immediate radiance.

USAGE:
Apply 2x per day to clean skin.  Pat gently all around the eye area.  Safe for use on eyelids. Dermatologist tested, Ophthalmologist tested and Fragrance-free.
Time Zone Eye Anti-Line/Anti-Wrinkle Eye Creme will be available at Estée Lauder stores at The Palladium Mall, Mumbai, UB City Mall, Bangalore and Select City Walk Mall, Saket, New Delhi .
Retail Price: INR 2042.00
